Fingerprint reader software

2009-10-18, 16:33 PM

Lenovo, in its recent posting of recommended steps before a Win 7 upgrade, suggests removing the Thinkvantage Fingerprint software prior to upgrade and reinstalling the Win 7 version post upgrade.  (http://download.lenovo.com/lenovo/content/win7/win7_tips_notebook_software_en.html)

But, when you look at the instructions for the Win 7 version

you get instructions that also include:

Note: It is required to upgrade the Fingerprint Reader to version 5.6.2 or higher before upgrading to 5.9.2.    This software is not supported on Value Line Family desktops or Value Line Family notebooks with integrated fingerprint reader.

If we uninstall the Vista version before upgrade, we won't have 5.6.2 or higher on the laptop to be able to install 5.9.2...  Is this a catch 22 or just an error in the instructions?

It seems that it might be a mistake to remove the Vista fingerprint software before a Win 7 upgrade...but, Lenovo says that this will cause problems.

Anyone have any experience to share?
