Issues after Vista---->Win7 migration

2009-11-24, 17:15 PM

Hi,

I upgraded my T400s from Vista Prof to Win7 Prof 32 bit yesterday, and it did NOT go smooth. I had to start over after an error message given in the process. Anyway I ended up having to format my preload drive and installed there. Coming back up I pretty much had a generic Win7 installation, no traces of Lenovo drivers / software whatsoever. I pulled some from the companion disc and installed all I could through the Thinkvantage Toolbox.

I now have the following issues:

1. A device called Base System Device in the Other devices category, PCI slot 3 does not install. Driver not available for download. What device is this, so that I can download the driver manually?

2. Rescue & Recovery is not installed. I found the Rescue and Recovery© 4.3 Sysprepbackup Accessory Package for the Microsoft Windows 7, is this what I need?

3. Fingerprint Reader does not activate when I boot. I have enrolled the fingerprints, but do not get the option after boot. How can I activate it?

4. The windows boot manager comes up every time I boot. Can I disable it?

Appreciate any help!

Solved! See the solution
Cheers, Thorbjorn

Have you installed and run ThinkVantage System Update 4.0?

Yes, I have. This is now I got most of the drivers back on to the system. But SU does not find the missing driver in my first point.

For Q4:  Do you mean the list of operating systems that comes up right after BIOS?

If so, Control Panel > System & Security > System, Advanced system settings option on left, Startup and Recovery choice, controls these settings.

The Base System Device appears to be the card reader, I installed it and problem #1 disappeared.

Excellent catch, Thorbjorn.

I had those BSD missing-in-Devices issues, and then for other reasons had installed the latest Card Reader (for the SD slot in the front of G530.

I happened to notice the BSD indications had gone away, later, but didn't connect the two occurances.

Base System Device indeed.

Thanks,

C.
