Re: [LIST] Can I upgrade to Windows 8.1? Compatible models and possible fixes

2013-10-25, 19:59 PM

I have upgraded a new Z500 to 8.1 (8 was appalling). I have lost Bluetooth and the computer keeps freezing and going very slow. It is slower and much more frustrating than my Samsung Tab, iPad 2 and iPhone 4.

Why is such a powerful machine (Core i5) struggling so much.

Should I change to an Apple Laptop?

Re: [LIST] Can I upgrade to 8.1? Compatible models and possible fixes

Hello Lenovo fans. I need some help or advice. I have a Lenovo T61 laptop (6466-5DG) with windows 7 (32-bit) installed. I also have the 32 bit windows 8.1 and would like to upgrade. Is my laptop compatibile with the new os? I heard some rumors that people get black screen after upgrading. Did anyone have this problem. Another thing I would like to know is: Since I will be upgrading from win 7 I only get to keep personal files. Does that mean all the Lenovo software will be deleted? What do I need to install after upgrade? Thank you in advance.

I've upgraded my IdeaPad Z570 to Windows 8 and now Windows 8.1.  From my experience this machine is totally compatible with the Windows 8 and Windows 8.1 operating system.  The only problem I have encountered is with the Lenovo Power Management software.  Lenovo release for Windows 8 is buggy.  Using the Windows 7 version works just fine.

Windows 8.1 is mostly compatible with the Lenovo z565 4311. However I did run into some issues. First of all, my wifi wouldn't get past the router to the internet. I got the infamous limited connection issue. I fixed that by installing a windows 7 version of the driver.

Second is I cannot for the life of me figure out how to fix an issue with my screen brightness. It seems to be permanantly stuck on dim. I've tried installing differant drivers but to no avail. Help?

I haven't had the energy management software working on this machine since windows 8. Haven't really missed it to tell you the truth. I tried installing the Windows 7 version but that also does not work.

Lenovo L420

Upgraded to Windows 8.1 with clean install (ISO file). It works but:

WLAN:

1x1 11b/g/N W-Lan-PCI Express-Half-Mini-Card-Adapter with Microsoft supplied drver work only at half the Speed.

Windows 8 with older driver revision was 120-150 Mbit Windows 8.1: 55-65 Mbit.

Hotkey Feature Integration Package. Only the microphone key work. Not even FN-F5 as in Windows 8.

Lenovo Settings Depency Driver not used since I have a mSata Intel SSD. When switching of the CD-Rom drive it always send a TRIM command to the mSata. The PC freezes for a couple of seconds.

Lots of DCOM Errors in the event log. It is not only the Weather App.

System reserved partition uses now 329 out of the 350 MB. VSS Errors are the consequence. Need to increase the size of the system reserved partition to 400 MB.

All in all not a pleasant exercise. Lenovo doesn't care to support their installed base. Went back to Windows 8 without Lenovo Support SW since it is broken.  Let's see what happens during the next 2 years. May be Microsoft pulls back the Windows 8.1 update and delivers something more compatible..

Michael

No matter what the compatible model list says, my trusty T61 has gone through many iterations: Windows XP Pro x86 -> Windows 7 Pro x64 -> Windows 8 pro x64 -> and now Windows 8.1 Pro x64. Everything works as advertised!

E420, i5, 8GB, 500GB/7200, 32GB mSATA, Win 8.1 Pro x64
T61, 4GB, 500GB Hybrid, Win 8.1 Pro x64
