Lenovo Enhanced Experience

2009-10-08, 20:05 PM

I have decided on the x200 multi touch.  I am confused though on how the EE works.  Is this only available for machines purchased after the 22nd?  Or can I order the machine now and just download EE from Lenovo when I receive my upgrade to Win 7?

Hi cichild,

EE is not something you can download, instead, it is about enhanced experience, particularly with faster boot times and shutdown times. There are other benefits too. For more information, you may read the article about Enhanced Experience in Lenovo website.

As you can see that under the availability, products with EE are only available when Windows 7 launches on 22nd Oct.

Hope this helps.

Cheers,

Cleo

Re: Lenovo Enhanced Experience

I was under the impression that it had to do with Win 7, Lenovo optimizing drivers to run more efficiently.  If so, would'nt I be able to receive these optimizations when I upgrade my machine to Win 7?

Thanks for the help

Cleo, Thank you for your response in the other thread.  Maybe my question that I have been posing to customer service agents as well as on this forum have been unclear.  Is the Lenovo Enhanced Eperience tied only to computers sold after the 22nd or will those of us who have purchased PC's recently be able to benefit for this program when we upgrade to Win 7?

There is another thread where several users have posed similar questions, maybe they have articulated them better than I can.  They have not received an answer yet either.

Thank you again for your help

cichild,

The EE is provided not only through driver optimization, but also through a lot of customization of how the drivers are loaded, order, timing etc.   If you install the Win 7 upgrade on a qualifying existing system and update the drivers, you should have pretty good performance, but it won't be identical to a Lenovo image shipped after 10/22.

I expect that community members will share their tuning tips.   I remember a lot of long running tuning discussions on Notebook review and Gottabemobile in past years around XP and Vista optimization and I expect we will see the same thing with Win7 as some of the more technical enthusiasts compete for benchmark bragging rights.  :smileywink:

I say that with complete admiration for their skill, ability, and time investment.

I believe some more FAQ type materials are being put together to help explain the EE vs standard image differences and I'll pass that along as they become available.

Best regards,

Mark

Mark, your response is much appreciated.  I guess this would explain why some CS agents have told me yes, and some have told me no.  Thank you again for taking the time to respond.

It looks like the sale on the tablet I wanted just happens to end on the 21st, strange coincidence.  :smileysad:

Thank you for the update Mark, I am sure everyone appreciates it as much as I do. My experience with Win 7 RTM has been excellent thus far on my 1 year old T61 6459 CTO. I'm sure once Oct 22 finally arrives there will be a lot of chatter amongst the Lenovo community on optimizing boot times on older models. Mine boots in under a minute and I am pretty satisfied with that, however being such a compulsive person I look forward to squeezing as much speed and stability as I can out of the new Microsoft release!

I did see that there was an updated BIOS for my W700 that expressely stated support for Win 7. I installed it and gained back my PANTONE device (bluetooth still not working).

Is this BIOS going to give us most/all of EE?

I read Mark's response and he said a pre-loaded image would be different. I wonder in what way?

Mark,

May be I don't understand the whole picture of this and the similar discussion, so my question would look stupid.

I have purchased my laptop with Windows Vista and have registered version of Windows 7 (offcource it is regular version, not EE). But why doesn't Lenovo company allow their users to have the whole advantage of the EE version of Windows 7?

Is there any dialog with Microsoft corporation in order to allow the users who have purchased Windows 7 to switch it to Lenovo's one? I think both sides will have profit for such a contract. The Lenovo users would be more satisfied from their laptops and from the new Windows. It can even influence on the future sales.

Best Regards,

Evgeny.
