I do not recommend registry cleaners or so-called registry boosters. As you have seen they create problems and sometimes can have disastrous effects.

so do you recommend uninstalling it ?

I don't support the use of so called "registry cleaners" because they can aggravate a situation and take steps we are many times not manually aware of.
It is better not to resort to such programs if you don't know what is happening with the proposed fix and the registry.
Otherwise, a change to the registry can make a system unbootable by one mistake.

At the risk of opening up a nest of worms, I think I'll put my 2 cents in.

First of all at the very bottom of Kelly's there is a link to a registry cleaner and guess what?  It's uni-blue.

Let's face it, windows is a crummy housekeeper. It leaves particles and traces of everything it does everywhere.

Most of your links have to do with options on speeding windows up and most of the recommendations have to do with buying more ram.

It's not a question of speeding the system up, it's a question of cleaning the system up. By the time the registry starts slowing a system down, it's usually too late and the only fix is to reinstall the operating system.  That, to me, is unacceptable. Computer manufacturers first response to any problems is always, reinstall your OS.

It's easy to say, "don't use it", it's a little harder to educate users in the proper use of it.  If you don't use one, you "will" be reinstalling your OS in a couple of years.  All of your links say, "if you don't know what you're doing"  but none of them say what the proper way of doing it is.

I've used registry cleaners forever.  I've never had to reinstall an operating system except for a hardware problem.  All my systems run clean and smooth.  But, I run the cleaners religiously.  I always back up the registry.  I've never had a problem with a registry cleaner.

I do a lot of experimentation with new beta programs and installing them and uninstalling them tends to overwhelm the registry.  If I didn't use cleaners, my systems would be unuseable within 6 months.

All I'm saying is, instead of just saying, "don't use it",  what do you say we spend a little time and effort and educate the masses into the proper use of cleaners and maybe post some links on the proper usage of a cleaner.

I will agree to disagree. The risk of using automatic registry cleaners is too great.
If someone lacks the skills to clean the registry manually, he has no business doing so automatically.
