Parallel Printer with Windows 7

2010-10-08, 16:59 PM
I have a Lenovo desktop without a parallel interface and I am running Windows 7. I have bought USB to parallel card interface cable to attach a parallel printer to the computer. When I plug the USB interface into the computer I get an error message from Windows 7 indicating that a new device has been found but it is not a recognized device. It appears to load the correct drivers (USB Print) but it will not functio and running diagnostics does not appear to fix the problem. Thanks George

Hello,

Have you tried manually installing the Windows 7 device drivers for the parallel printer first and then connecting it via the USB to parallel adapter to the computer?  If so, did that make any difference?

Regards,

Hi Aryeh,

Thanks for your response.

As soon as I plug in the USB to Parallel cable (no printer at the other end - just the cable), I get a message from Windows indicating an unknown device has been found.  It appears to correctly identify the device as it assigns USB Printer driver.  The diagnostics indicate that a more current driver should be assigned but when I attempt to do it, Windows claims I have the most current driver.  I attempted to use a different cable but had the same results.

I am throwing in the towel.  My old printer has been a good warrior and it appears to be much easier to get a new USB printer then to continue fighting this losing cause.

Maybe the printer isn't compatible with Windows 7.

Windows 7 does not even see the printer.  I plug the USB/Parallel cable into the computer, with no printer attached on the other side and I get an 'unrecognized device' error message from Windows.

You have the USB/Parallel Port adapter, right?

Windows will detect it because it has a chip inside. You need to download or install it drivers first.
