Taking ownership of a drive, to access it externally.

2013-10-29, 18:11 PM

I have an Ideapad running Windows 7.   Last week I started getting a "disk read error, please press ctrl + alt + del to reboot"  (or something like that).

When inquiring about the error, I was told that I need to do a factory reset.   However, before I can do that, I need to recover some files off the HAD.

I purchased a SAT to USB 2.0 HDD enclosure to recover the data.  However, it recognizes the drives, but doesn't show the available/used percentages and won't allow me to access anything within it/them.

I have the HDD back in the original laptop, using a boot-disk.  I am looking to 'unlock'  the drives/partitions using the CMD prompt.  Or, anything that will allow me to pull data from these drives.

I have no problem purchasing a new HDD, but I MUST recover some files from the current.

Thanks in advance, for any help!

What eversion of Microsoft Windows are you running, and what is the exact error message you receive when you try to access files from the hard disk drive?
