Re: ThinkPad software for Windows 8

Ok, so my bad for missing the comment forom someotherguy.... That being said, there has been given no timeline on this and given how long it took for Lenovo to get this far, as this thread has been open since October, wouldn't it be safe to say that we could be at waiting for this to be remedied for those of us that clean installed Windows 8 on a laptop that is stated to support it?  I would push for more of a timeframe, not just an "It's coming" as it could be "coming" for a long time and you could be left waiting hopefully.

I would just simply assume there won't be any support. That way, maybe, and just MAYBE, you'll get a nice surprise.

Low expectations are the key to never be disappointed. ;)

I would never have guessed I needed to have low expectations regarding the purchase of my new Lenovo laptop. But when it comes to this matter I guess you're right.

Often times I do have the low expectations for support.  Just not for something that I paid so much money for, and not for something that is less than a year old and under a factory warranty.

It's not like lenovo can upgrade all the old/relatively New Thinkpads to OA3 so they can get the OEM apps. Microsoft probably designed this new spec without even thinking of the NEW machines(bought right before windows 8) that would be upgraded. The OEM can't really be blamed for a boneheaded move on microsoft's part, and Lenovo is working to get it for all thinkpad users running windows 7 -> windows 8 Upgrades.

Reminds me of Black Mesas "When it's done" approach.

Re: ThinkPad software for Windows 8

Ok, I understand that Microsoft may be partially, or maybe even mostly to blame for this, but Lenovo should have been able to forsee this as being a potential issue especially that it has been more than 2 months now and they should have done some sort of "in the meantime" fix.  Something more like say, design their own app to work alongside the Lenovo settings dependency to give users some of the power and control features that would have been included in their Metro App.  To just completely drop their existing Thinkvantage programs off the face of the earth for Windows 8 and then leave users hanging for so many months is like bad PR for them.  It wouldn't take much to either update the existing apps to be "Windows 8 compatible" or to quickly hack up some Apps that will work in the meantime that won't require brute forcing them into the OS with compatibility mode.

Understand that I'm not asking Lenovo to appologize for Microsoft's blunders, I'm just asking them for a working solution in the meantime because we could all be waiting for quite a bit longer for Microsoft to help make it happen, because you know that since the App has already been developed, the Lenovo developers aren't really doing anything except occasionally tweaking the existing Lenovo App when they get more from Microsoft.

I asked Microsoft about the issue with the App. They replyed to me, that it's only a problem by Lenovo, because th App was only released for the Lenovo App Store, integrated in Windows App Store. If they would free the App for all W8 users, everything would be fine, but as you can see, they don't hurry doing it.

As long as this takes, keep watching here:
