Re: ThinkPad software for Windows 8

I am attaching it to an email as I type this. I zipped all the Lenovo folders in windowsapps. Is there a different folder I need to hit?

EDIT: there is nothing inside software distribution

Anything similar to SWTOOLS or DRIVERS on the Windows 7/Vista/XP machines would be ideal really !

I'm not sure if they changed the preload stuff on Win8 or not, only you would know that :)

I did not see either of those folders. There is a recovery partition, but it is locked away, and I dont have the equipment, and im pretty sure the bookstore wouldnt be too keen on me cloning the laptop.

Heya,

They would normally be on the C:\ partition

They're not normally hidden either but might be as I don't know what Lenovo changed on Windows 8.

Strange that they're not there on that system - does it have all the Lenovo stuff pre-installed ?

Maybe try searching for DRIVERS or SWTOOLS ?

Didnt find them. Yeah, it has all the lenovo software preinstalled. its an E530, with preloaded windows .

Now, if only it were possible to embed the Lenovo PK in an older thinkpad

Sorry for the double post.

Here is the zip folder containing the files for Lenovo companion, Lenovo settings, and Lenovo Support. I could not find any appx files, but maybe the files in the folders can be zip compressed to appx, because that's essentially what appx files are.

If anyone has VS2012 Professional or above with the proper package creator in it that would be good as VS Express with the command line makeappx tool keeps crapping out for me towards the ends.

Re: ThinkPad software for Windows 8

Ooh, I have VS2012 Ultimate. I just have to go back to windows 8. Just tell me what to do, and I'll get to it later today. I too, need some sleep.

Also, no problem. Bookstore was kind of happy with me, because apparently the manager set up a microsoft account on the laptop, then left, and no-one knew the password. I ran a quick windows reset, and bam.

Re: ThinkPad software for Windows 8

Fullmetal99012, just curious, did the files you shared come from the Windows Store (grabbing them out of the cache of the properly authenticated machine) or come preloaded on the machine?
I ask just in case the Windows Store contains an updated version, or in case the preloaded version is model-specific (whereas it would seem the Windows Store version is intended for all Lenovo models).

If you're willing, it might be safer for the rest of us to grab the .appx file directly from the store (per the directions here: http://superuser.com/questions/478041/where-is-windows-8s-package-cache-for-store-applications) which also reduces the need for repackaging the appx with VisualStudio.
