Unless I'm missing something

The appx package intercepted by Fiddler is pre-signed with the right signature no ?

Aren't all appx files that are coming directly from the Windows Store pre-signed ? They don't get signed locally, they just get checked for authenticity locally as far as I'm aware.

We'd only need to sign it if we built it ourselves. Hence taking it via Fiddler being ultimately a lot easier and then allowing in store updates to function as the signatures will match.

Re: ThinkPad software for Windows 8

After over a weeks work involving MS and AMD tech support I finally have a working E520.  The only problems, no AMD switchable graphics ( the beta ones work until you re-boot) No Num Lock on reboot.  And only 2.45 hours battery life.  I have not found out how to turn off Bluetooth but I guess I can try this in the BIOS.

Lenovo support have been very poor. They just sent an e-mail saying as I did not purchase a Lenovo OEM license I wont get support.  Most of the stuff I need is on the old Win 7 updates but although  LSC loads and runs the Update centre part does not work and I have not found a way to install the old WIN 7 updates yet..  The antagonistic, proprietary attitude to updates has stopped me buying a Lenovo tablet.  The win 8 support is very late and not good.

Battery life is reported to be linked to the Graphics issue.  Win8 is fast but the mail is rubbish.  Get the live essentials download from MS and its fine.  To get DVD support you must have WMC.

Found the answer for Bluetooth in WIN 8  go to the  Broadcom website. down load the drivers for Bluetooth. This installs an icon in wireless settings to turn Bluetooth off .  It also doubles battery life

After the update if you find your battery is draining very quick it is probably because Bluetooth is permanently  on.  You must down load the Broadcom drivers to get control  They detect all your B/tooth devices and installs the control icons under settings wireless. Off it doubles the battery life.

We are missing something, we need an OEM licensed windows 8 machine, to run fiddler on and request the app from windows store.

Or....??

We need exactly that

A Windows 8 machine with an OEM license hardcoded into it.

We then need that person to uninstall all the metro apps so they show as installable in the windows store

Then to capture the appx files whilst re-installing using fiddler, then distribute to the masses.

Would take someone with the right machine maybe 20 mins tops to get all the apps and then upload them for the rest of us.

No, we need Lenovo to do that. They are the ones who promised us (me at least) full compatibility with Win8 if we bought a Win7 machine.

We need to hold their feet to the fire.

Agree with that/

We have Win8 support by Lenovo/ They MUST realize all laptops features.

If it is impossible to make metro apps work correctly with non-OEM win8, Lenovo MUST create desktop apps, that we can get through System Update.

We'd like to think that they MUST create them, but in reality they don't have to do squirt. It would be nice if they did have some app support for windows 8, but it is entirely up to Lenovo. Just like the decision not to release windows phone 7.8 to customers was entirely up to T-Mobile.
