Re: ThinkPad software for Windows 8

e-mail for UK is frontoffice@uk.ibm.com but do not hold your breath it is rare for them to answer.  I have been suffering with the error 43 on amd graphics which reduces battery life to under 3 hours for over 4 weeks and the only response I got was to go back to win7

MINA2, it isn't about the Q&A. Lenovo pushed the app persistently to MSFT store to get it to us. See if you can do anything from my suggestion:

I am not guaranteeing anything though.

Re: ThinkPad software for Windows 8

I see that there is now a Lenovo Settings app in the App store, but the "Mobile Access" application is still missing. Do you know if this is still being worked on?

I have 2 X1 Carbons. One that came in October with W7 and one that came today with W8/7Downgrade. The one I received today shows the Lenovo store in the Windows 8 store, including all the nice Lenovo apps. The W7 machine that I upgraded to W8 does not. This is very frustrating.

Is there any way to just have my October-purchased X1C recognized correctly in the Windows 8 store? Surely this is an issue Lenovo / Microsoft have worked out for their corporate customers?

Cheers,

Chris

I have no idea whether this is still being worked on but my gut tells me it will be sorted out soon.

Currently there is no way to have your retail installation see the Lenovo Store. It is definitely Microsoft's problem, but it seems Lenovo is working it out for us (seeing the current Settings app) in a way that we can have those installed ourselves.

Random_Bit, I have no left overs from previous installs. I usually make a backup, then do the install. In the case it doesn't work I do a recovery. This helps to maintain a "clean" registry but it is no good for the SSD.

In my case with the L420, the Lenovo Dependency Settings, the Lenovo Power Management Driver and the Lenovo Hotkey Package don't get along very well. The trouble starts as soon as I load the Settings Dependency Package via the Lenovo Settings App. The disk driver freezing problems start. When I remove the Lenovo PM Driver I have no longer disk issues but the Function Keys no longer work despite  the Hotkey Function Package.

So I give up for the moment. It is not worth to have the Lenovo Settings installed. May be in some future Lenovo tries it out in the lab and releases some working SW.

Can't find the proper place, so just put it here.

Some of you know there is a problem with Lenovo, «Discrete graphics» mode (Optimus turned off in BIOS) and desktop dead freeze several seconds after OS boot. I tried to fix it for about a month, and now I have a result. To prevent laptop from freezing in Discrete graphics mode in Windows 8, you have to turn off VT-d Virtualization feature in BIOS. Just it. So, it's very funny, but also sad, Lenovo.

excoder,

Which system do you have?  It may help to understand if this is a system / series limitation or if it is broader.

After you reply, we may want to move this part of the discussion to a specific hardware board to continue the discussions so that we can look at it as a specific issues.

Thanks

Mark

I have w520 4270 CTO with K1000 Quadro and i7-2860QM. I'd met some mentions of that problem on the forum earlier, but no solution had been found. I think it's just a common problem of i-don't-know-what part of the system. Maybe it's just a fault of coupling Intel + NVidia.

Hi Excoder:

I have the same machine as you (4270-CTO, but with the 2000 series video) and I have the graphics set in BIOS to use the discrete graphics all the time - I have not encountered the problem you report.

Occasionally I get a blue screen (not a BSOD, just a blue screen with the Windows 8 charm bar at the side) for a second or two when I don't expect it, but other than that, the graphics have been trouble-free.

New "Lenovo Settings" Metro App released...

Hi Folks:

I notice that Lenovo has released a new version 2.0 of the Lenovo Settings Metro app.  This brings some additional functionality that was missing from the first release.

At the same time, a new 'Settings Dependency' package has also been released.  If you load the new Metro app without updating the Settings Dependency, the Metro app will ask you to go fetch the updated settings dependency software as soon as you try to do something.

The Settings Dependency package is available via Lenovo Update (automatic install), but to get the new Metro App, you have to go to the 'Store' icon on the Windows 8 page that has all the tiles.
