Re: ThinkPad software for Windows 8

2014-06-11, 22:42 PM

When I was on Windows 7 on my T-420 I was able to set my charger to stop charging at whatever percent I wanted to and I could also get to to start charging again when it dropped down to a certain percent. Now that I "upgraded" to Windows 8, I can't do that. The problem is, I have a docking station hooked up to my TV and I don't like to keep my laptop constantly charging because I have already ruined on battery by over charging it. Is there any program that will allow me to tell it when to stop charging so that I don't overcharge my battery? As of now I just have to shut it down, take out the battery and put it back on the charger without the battery. Then when I need to take it off I have to turn it off, put the battery back on and then start it back up. I guess that's better than paying $100 for a new battery but I'd much rather be able to set the charger to stop charging once it hits 100% then start back when it gets down to around 5%. That way it doesn't overcharge and also extends the overall life of my battery. Please help if you know anything about this program on Windows 8? Or if I go back to Windows 7, will I be able to get that very same program back? Thank your help!

Chris

@chrishencz

The solution is simple:

1. Remove Lenovo Settings Dependecy Package

2. Remove Lenovo Settings Metro App

3. Download the Power Manager for Windows 7

4. Launch the installer in Windows 7 compability mode

5. Enjoy.

For me it's working on Windows 8.1 x64. The only limit is that you cannot create the power plans through the Power Manager. But changing thresholds for the charging and reseting the battery work perfectly :)

In brief - use Microsoft Application Compatibility Toolkit (with Win7RTMVersionLie feature only) instead "Windows 7 compability mode".

How do  I control the fan speed and the CPU power in win8?

I've had that option while running Win7.

Thank You

I've heard this statement but I can confirm that Access Connections DOES WORK under Windows 8.1 - been running it for 4 months now with no issues at all. I think it may be a non-supported statement rather than a non-working statement.

About lack of Power Manager software in W530 under Windows 8

I don't care about battery life. For me the important feature was controlling the CPU performance.

I have the feeling my W530 with W8.1 fresh installed, doesn't perform as fast as it did with the settings "maximum performance" activated through Power Manager under W7.

Anybody knows a way to be sure CPU is working at 100% of its capabilities,  without the glorious Power Manager?

Any help would be much appreciated.
