Warranty issues with upgrading to Win 7 Home Premium (Student Version) from Vista ultimate on T500

2010-01-08, 21:58 PM

Hi,

I have a T500, purchased Feb 09 with the 3 year comprehensive warranty including accidental damage protection, running preloaded windows vista ultimate. i'm a student, and i have the 30$ version of Windows 7 from Microsoft, and i was concerned if upgrading to this windows 7 version would void my warranty? or can i still go ahead and upgrade? since i dont seem to eligible for the upgrade option, this student deal from ms seems the best way. Can anyone help me on this?

Why not just buy a new hard drive and save your old one in case of warranty issue.

No, loading a different operating system will not void your warranty, but be sure to make your backup disks in case you need to reload the original preload at some point.

Jane,

Thanks. I already made the backup discs using the separate backup partition that came with my system. It made me three discs a startup and 2 product recovery discs. That's what you are talking about right? I have those, and also made a backup of my files/documents to an external HDD. So, I think I'm ready to try installing win 7. thanks
