Re: Win 7 upgrade program - delivery updates

2009-11-05, 3:57 AM

To: Contrarian

Thank you very much for the pointer. However I still have a few questions.

  1. This page may actually be for people who want to upgrade to Win 7 by other means (such as purchasing retail etc.) and not for us. The reason I suspect this is that this page includes instructions such as downloading drivers from Lenovo website etc. But from the pictures of discs in the kit (posted by someone earlier in this forum), it seems that these things are included in the DVD they send.
  2. How did you get to this page?
  3. Since you say you have already done "Before upgrading to Win 7" part on the page, can you tell how long it took?

To: Everyone

Can anyone else confirm this? Did anyone who has got the kit already have to go through this process? Perhaps Mark can throw some light on this.

Thank you

TO IFFATALL:

I started my research with this link:

http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?sitestyle=lenovo&lndocid=WIN7-TIPS

And before you ask, I got that link from the Lenovo Upgrade page:

http://www.lenovo.com/us/en/windows7-sitelet/upgrade_lenovo_PC.html

Now, great, this information ought to keep you busy for a long time.

Go for it.

It would be really helpful if someone could determine if we could download the ISO from digital river for our respective editions and install them and then activate them with the product keys when we finally receive them. I've done some research, but its very ambiguous. I've got a feeling this could work but I dont want to risk spending a whole day setting up my machine only to find that I have to reinstall it again!

Mark, perhaps you could make a phone call and give us an answer. Or is their anyone else that might have an authoritive source or answer?

Re: Win 7 upgrade program - delivery updates

2009-11-05, 13:43 PM

I received the shipping confirmation e-Mail this morning!

They are not really using regular UPS for shipping. It is called UPS MI, some kind of partnership between UPS and USPS. (http://www.ups-mi.net/packageID/default.aspx) Sender->UPS->USPS->Receiver

The e-Mail they sent says it will take 2-5 business days for delivery. The tracking number provided doesn't work as of now, so I guess its because either UPS MI is not up to date, or MM hasn't really shipped it yet.

My status on the website has gone from 'Pending fulfillment' to the black line everyone has been talking about. So, I guess, and as I think Mark had pointed before, the black line means - shipped, but for some reason they are unable to show the tracking number.

I purchased my Thinkpad (T400s) on 10 Oct, placed order for Win 7 upgrade on 23 Oct, was charged on 26 Oct.

$17.03 for a 2 to 5 day delivery of a package that holds a couple of CDs -- wow.   Thanks for the update -- I've not gotten an email but as posted above I now have the "black line"

Thank you very much for the information. I was totally unaware of it, and did not expect I would have to do these things. I will start with the process right away.

Thanks again!

The way UPS-MI innovations works is UPS takes your package to your nearest regional mail distribution center and gives it to USPS and then it comes through regular mail. It takes several days for tracking information to show up. It's not the most efficient delivery method and definitely isn't worth the $17 shipping fee I paid.
