Re: Win 7 upgrade program - delivery updates

2009-11-05, 14:14 PM

I get the feeling Mentor Media is making more of their money from shipping than they are from Lenovo.

I finally have the black bar for my order status; I feel so special. And my Payment Status is Pass (Payment Made). Maybe I'll get the upgrade for Christmas.

This is NOT the case.  Mine was a black bar for most of last week, and then reverted to "Pending for fulfillment".  I have not received anything yet.

iffatall asked:

"I am not sure I understand. If you upgrade your firmware now, and then install Win 7, will it not undo everything?"

Firmware here refers to the computer's BIOS -- essentially the startup code/software that is contained on a chip in your computer. It is totally separate from your computer's operating system and is updated separately as well.  Check the Lenovo site for drivers and downloads for your particular model -- there may be a BIOS update available.  If you have the ThinkVantage System Update utility installed you can use it to check for a BIOS update.  Some, but not all, models have BIOS (firmware) updates available for Windows 7. Some don't have or don't require one.

Last update from Mark he said black bar was a bug so it may not mean anything. The way their email system is so slow some of us may not even receive the email before we receive our upgrade kit.

Re: Win 7 upgrade program - delivery updates

I called today and managed to speak with someone at Lenovo who told me that Mentor Media has currently shipped out 30% of the orders, they'll be shipping another 50% of those this week, and hope to have the entire backlog worked out by next Friday the 13th. You should have your Windows 7 sometime before Thanksgiving.

At this point there really isn't much we can do but realize that purchasing from Lenovo is a huge mistake, and they generally treat their customers poorly.

Clearly I'll go back to sticking with Dell.

Thanks, Stevo for the clarification.

I too am frustrated, but would still stick to Lenovo. I don't think Dell even stands to compare, and would go as far as to say that going 'back' to Dell is always a mistake, lol. I think most of the frustration is due to MM, and I think the only wrong at Lenovo's part was to choose MM, if they had a choice. And in their defense, they must have a tremendous backlog since June. My order number was 5XXXXX, which make more than 500,000 orders before me, and that to is from Lenovo alone.

But then again, they should have planned better, and $17.03 was absurd and wrong on their part.

Re: Win 7 upgrade program - delivery updates

I called Mentor Media today to check on the status of my order.  On 7/7 I ordered a T400 7417 and a T500 2081 (both Vista Business x64, waiting on Win7 Professional x64).  I placed my upgrade order on 8/12 and my payment was processed on 10/25.  MMG said that my order had been "processed" and would be shipping within two business days.  So I'm guessing I'll get my DVDs sometime next week.
My order status is currently the black bar... but it was that way last week too.

I would think twice before using this as the cross on which to crucify Lenovo.  Dell used Mentor Media as well, and I still don't have my free upgrade for my Optiplex 960 either... although it shipped this week.  And they didn't charge me for shipping.

Yup. The empty status is back for me too.

:/

Atleast whatever software lenovo uses for its forums is kinda neat.
