Re: Win 7 upgrade program - delivery updates

2009-11-13, 19:18 PM

Has anybody in the U.S. received their upgrade disks? Like others, my credit card was debited on October 25 and I have heard nothing since.

My experience with HP has been very different. They charged nothing - absolutely nothing - for the upgrade disks for a Pavilion purchased around the same time as my ThinkPad. On October 23, I got an email saying the upgrade disks had been shipped. They arrived on November 2.

Hooray for HP. Shame on Lenovo.

Mike

AFAIK, HP does not have a Driver support that is as good as the one from lenovo, or am i wrong?

Lenovo had 90% of their drivers up at 18.10 or 10/18 (depends on where you live).

when did HP release their drivers?

Im in the same boat.

Mine was listed as being processed for departure from Hong Kong on the 5-Nov-2009 after receiveing a shipment notification on the 4-Nov-2009.

Theres no further info on Hong Kong Post or eparcel.

Technically it should have been here yesterday as MM quoted delivert 7-9 days from the 4-Nov.

All I can do is wait.

Still this is not a valid reason why Lenovo makes us wait a month or longer before we get the upgrade discs, especially if their drivers were up already at 10/18. After these upgrade program problems I really can't trust Lenovo anymore because they take 18 euros for "shipping" and then take the money instantly at the release even knowing that the products won't start shipping on that day and also also how they use some standard mail to get the product here which will take a long time if they really send them from the usa...
I have never got any mails considering my order status and this site is really the only information channel about this thing I have found. It doesn't really make me trust a company that takes your money and says "we will ship it someday" and then leaves without showing any activity to fulfill the original contract they offered you.
Ps. Also the fact that Lenovo's own site has been broken for a long time (years?) giving random errors and 404 error doesn't really seem a good market strategy. To be honest I have never seen any other computer manufacturer that would have so horrible website than Lenovo. Also contact information for Lenovo's support is hidden in the site and made hard to contact Lenovo unless you live in the usa (probably on purpose).

Geo,

I doubt if HP will update drivers for all of the dozens (or is it hundreds) of older printer and printer/scanner/fax models out there.  They are relying on basic Windows support for my 2005-vintage all-in-one.  The only drawback has been that conversion of scans to PDF's is not automatic. The computer is fine, though. Unlike the Lenovo upgrade, free meant free and delivery was timely.

To Michael1023

I received one of my Windows 7 upgrades  yesterday the 12th. The order # was0154xxx which doesn't mean anything, as I'm still waiting on an earlier order# which I haven't even received an email on yet. It took about 8 days to reach east Central illinois after shipping. Maybe a little information is better than nothing.

Well, mine came for my W700! I had previously downloaded a digital river version of Win 7 (with instructions that are somewhere in this thread).

My upgrade process was this -

 1) Entered the key that came with the package - instant success - registered immediately

 2) Inserted the Lenovo drivers disk and ran the installer - I already had the latest versions from the Lenovo site.

     The Thinkstaller finished instantly.

The whole process took less than five minutes!

So you installed your Windows 7 from it and the activation status still shows no problems? And you got all the Lenovo software installed without problems? I guess I might try this too because getting the discs from Lenovo seems to take forever.

Edit: If anyone wants to find the information it's on page 25.

I'm not going to speak for anyone else, but I imagine those of us who DON'T EVEN HAVE WINDOWS 7 YET don't really care how quickly Lenovo posted their Windows 7 drivers.
