Win8 trackpoint third button middle click action

2012-09-18, 5:57 AM

Hello. Using a W530 with Windows 8 and ThinkPad UltraNav driver version 16.2.5.0. Tried uninstalling --> reboot -> reinstall -> reboot. Middle button only does scrolling. In UltraNav (TrackPoint) settings, only option is to adjust stick sensitivity and to enable Press-To-Click. Please advise on how to enable middle button click.

The solution, although inconvenient, is simple:

With the default window update installed Lenovo thinkpad drivers, fire up regedit.

Navigate to:
HKEY CURRENT USER\Software\Synaptics\SynTPEnh\UltraNavPS2 (note HKCU, not HKLM)

Change "TrackPointMode" to dword:00002214 from the previous value of 00001214

Then reboot/log out and back in...

Or instead of logging out:
Open the windows start screen, type "mouse", then click settings, then "mouse" to open the mouse properties...
On the UltraNav tab, disable the TrackPoint by clearing it's check mark, click apply. With the keyboard, track pad or other pointing device, re-enable the TrackPoint and hit apply. Your middle button should now function correctly.

Doesn't appear to have that option in the windows 8 beta drivers. I have 16.2.10.5

Also on a slightly related, can you open the charms bar with gestures? I cannot on my 2436-CTO

Witth the latest beta driver the Charms swipe works (swipe from the right edge horizontally towards the center) but an old, old, OLDDDD issue is back:  No middle click. :(

In prior versions it included a setting to switrch between scrolling, magnification and 'neither', the latter option enabling the middle click, used for example to open a browser link in a new tab, or to close tabs and windows.

I really, really need to get this back..

I believe in Win7 to 'enable" middle-button you need to set Trackpoint scrolling to "smooth" and not standard! But I am not certain about Win8 :(

Yep, just may have to wait for the release of Win8 for officially supported drivers.

Just about a month away. :)
