Re: Win8 trackpoint third button middle click action

jaymemauriceI created an account just to say thank you. This solved the issue for me. It really boggles the mind why Lenovo would choose to disable this feature.

Wow, I can't believe this actually worked! jaymemaurice,I hope the CEO of Lenovo gives you a cookie for this one. Apparently their own engineers let something as critical as this slide....Seriously, without this fix, I can't do any of my solidworks related CAD work

Thanks guys.

I do not expect to be getting any cookies from any CEOs or any liquor in the mail - just happy to help.

However, if you really want to send money to my paypal account, I won't object ;)

Anyway lets not burry the solution for those looking for it. To recap:

With the default window update installed Lenovo thinkpad drivers, fire up regedit.

Navigate to:
HKEY CURRENT USER\Software\Synaptics\SynTPEnh\UltraNavPS2 (note HKCU, not HKLM)

Change "TrackPointMode" to dword:00002214 from the previous value of 00001214

Then reboot/log out and back in...

Or instead of logging out:
Open the windows start screen, type "mouse", then click settings, then "mouse" to open the mouse properties...
On the UltraNav tab, disable the TrackPoint by clearing it's check mark, click apply. With the keyboard, track pad or other pointing device, re-enable the TrackPoint and hit apply. Your middle button should now function correctly.

Now you can use your middle button in cygwin, autocad, and other professional software apps that you bought your lenovo laptop to run.

Did you restart windows after restarting? Just to confirm, this fix works on my new lenovo thinkpad yoga w/windows 8.1 (excellent replacement for my aging x220 btw)

OMG...can't thank you enough for this!! Now I can finally use my middle mouse paste in my Linux VM!! I registered just to say thinks. The decision to remove this feature must have been made by the same person that engineered that registration process with a Captcha that has no refresh, and took me like 15 tries to get right!! I mean **bleep** Lenovo???

for me, it doesn't work on my brand new thinkpad yoga (w8.1).

can more users of TP yoga share experience?

i tried to switch the second option as well
"TrackPointModeFunction"=dword:00000010
according to this blog post:

so, it actually works, but not without problems. I have following problem (as quoted in the linked blog post):

"As far as the "middle click registration" problem, I recall that I had to hold the middle click button, move the TrackPoint down slightly, release the middle click button, and move the TrackPoint back to where you want to click"

so i'll try to install generic synaptic drivers.
