Re: Windows 7 Upgrade fulfillment discussion

I have been a Thinkpad customer since 1997, but this will be my last one.

I bought the laptop with the understandig that I would be able to promptly upgrade to Windows 7 for free.

The Free upgrade is not free (as advertised).  Does anyone else here hate gettign lied to???

The upgrade has been anything but prompt, and I have been forced to use this Virus of an operating system called Vista.  The laptop seems buggy.  I don't know for sure if it is the hardware or Vista.

Overall the experience has been time consuming, frustrating, and worse yet, I paid good money for it.  It won't happen again.  Laptops are supposed to make us more productive, not become a black hole that consumes time and money.

Oh, and don't buy the "its someone else fault" (Microsoft or Mentor).  Lenovo made the promises and took the money.  They are on the hook to deliver.

Re: Windows 7 Upgrade fulfillment discussion

Hmmm, where do I start.  I vented my anger, frustration, and deep resentment of buying an IdeaPad Y550 few months back when I couldn't even register my system.  After all the hue and cry for a month or two of struggle, I finally managed to get it on their system albeit the Warranty expiration date is *still* messed up.  That's another story altogether.

I promptly registered for Windows 7 upgrade when they first announced it.  As usual, they asked me for the order confirmation receipt and all the other non sense, even though I bought it from lenovo.com - they have no clue of my serial number - so, have to furnish all the details.  A month goes by, nothing - no email response that my order confirmation details were received or not.  So, I canceled my Windows 7 upgrade order thinking that the first one fell into their conveniently placed trash bin. I went ahead and placed a second order - few weeks go by and again nothing.  So, I cancel the second order and place a third one.  Am I dumb or what?

Now, I see that the Order Status says, "Order registration confirmed. Pending payment completion."  If I look at the "Eligible Model Number" in the Order, it says N.A.  So, I can certainly say, like others have pointed out earlier in the thread, that my order is going be rejected as the model number shows up as N. A.

Btw, you can't even place a Windows 7 Upgrade order and get a confirmation number without providing the Model Number but it says N.A now.  Go figure!

Possible new information !

2009-11-30, 18:30 PM

I just got off the phone with the Mentor Media Win 7 Upgrade hotline. (I think it's more like luke-warmline actually)

(909) 930 0800 X777  (open 8am-7pm Pacfic Time)

I was told that Idealpad models wouldn't be shipped upgrades until "mid December" or "the second week in December".    They tried desperately not to be too specific and succeeded.

Additional information:

1.  I found that my laptop, a G550, is neither a Thinkpad nor an Ideapad.  So if you have a ValueLine Series laptop like I do,  you are the red-headed stepchild of Lenovo.   No form you're likely to fill out is designed for the laptop that you were stupid enough to buy.  No information that you're likely to get will relate to your laptop.   So good luck to you.

2. One my last call to  the MentorMedia Hotline to ask about the status of the Win7 upgrade for  Value Line Series laptops,  the same lady I talked to 15 minutes earlier is now saying  Ideapad Upgrades will be shipped at the END OF DECEMBER.

So the same person told me Dec. 15,  mid Dec. and end of Dec. within 15 minutes.

I've gotten the message, it's all my fault.   The ship date keeps slipping because I keep calling.  I'll stop. I promise.

I'm trying to log in to my account on lenovo.com so I can return the laptop I bought thinking I'd get a free windows 7 upgrade that never arrived. But when I click on 'My Account' it just takes me back to the front page.

Anyone know what's going on?
