Re: Windows 7 Upgrade fulfillment discussion

2009-12-05, 14:46 PM

I purchased my Idea series (model #2267) on November 30, received it on December 2, and have been trying to register for the Windows 7 upgrade ever since.  I keep getting an error message that says "Model # not supported for Windows 7 upgrade."  Lenovo customer service told me to contact MM, which I did.  The customer service rep told me on Thursday 12/3 "we're having problems with our website, it is rejecting all registrations, try again in 24 hours." I just tried again and got rejected again.  How do I resolve this?

So just for those interested, my payment was taken November 21st, I've only once contacted MM and that was via the e-mail enquiry thing and quite a long time ago (beginning of November if memory serves) and never saw a response. So, approx 10 days between money taken and shipping e-mail.

So to finish it off, mine arrived yesterday, and I installed windows 7 (got rid of my Beta windows 7, and finally allowed me to properly repartition my hard-drive as I wanted. So, payment November 21st, and then recieved Dec 4th, so roughly 2 weeks between the two things.

Haven't yet looked at the driver disk that came with, I installed Windows 7 and Ubuntu 9.10 last night, when I next boot to windows I'll look at the driver disk and see what I need to install.

If I were you I'd drive Lenovo Sales nuts.   All the online registration screens that don't work are Lenovo sites not MM.

But I do worry about  the model number you've listed.  That alone could cause your registration difficulties.

Of course,  exactly how Lenovo and MM designates model numbers isn't exactly straight forward.

I did a quick google and found an example:  IdeaPad U330 2267-58U and I suspect U330 is the model number with 2267-58U (or something similar to "58U) being the "model name".

But who the hell knows, the whole thing is big mess from start to finish.    And worse if you actually get someone on the phone, they don't really know either.

Hi !

I purchased my Ideapad U330 this week, and I have exactly the same problem :

"[...], and have been trying to register for the Windows 7 upgrade ever since.  I keep getting an error message that says "Model # not supported for Windows 7 upgrade."

(Besides, the error message in french is blank, very practical...)

Is it a problem from MM ? Where can I find the product number of an ideapad U330 ? It seems there's only a serial number...

Thanks

Well... has the windows 7 upgrade started shipping for Ideapads (Y550 in my case) in US?

If yes(i hope so), is there a timeframe by which we would be receiving them. Is christmas a decent expectation?

Wow Lenovo is right on top things and taking some action to keep its customers! Waite no they aren't.  Oct 22 promised, Dec5 NOTTA THING. This is past ridiculous and Im tired of reading "be patient" ,"bare with us" "thanks for your understanding" ! I dont understand and my patience has long gone. Every other PC maker out there has sent the upgrades and took care of their VALUABLE customers, but LENOVO cant handle this task. And its obvious to us all, doesnt really care, and are gonna screw us over as long as they can. This was my "thank you" from Lenovo for spending $952 of my hard earned money on a Lenovo Laptop. I thought they were trying to fix this and trying to keep customers by getting us our upgrades, but its DECEMBER 5 already. Its not fixed, far from it according to my order #(LENOVO0127306). It reads the same as it did Aug 3 when I submitted the (NOT) free upgrade to them. Lenovo IM NOT IMPRESSED ! Shame on you , get me my upgrade , times up on being patient!  Alot of us wont ever buy from you again, can you blame us ?

I wonder how long did it take in your cases to upgrade order status by Mentor Media after sending email including scanned proof of purchase? Did you had to resend it after certain time? IMHO things like that should be proceeded almost real time.

Hello Mark

Re: Windows 7

I placed my order on Oct 3rd the web site shows status as pending payment I have called a couple times the last call was on Friday Dec 4th I have been told 2 -3 weeks each time I call.... it’s been 2 months now

I love the little G530 and just hope to upgrade the software rather soon, I was wondering if there might be a down load for this instead of having to wait for the disk which when it does come in will be stored with all the other system software.

Thank you

John C Magee

I have 2 other new lap tops in our home it only took toshiba 3 weeks from order of win 7 to delvery and about 4 weeks for hp ..  I like my G550 Lenovo however the entry level toshiba wins hands down from customer service as well as no issues what so ever even with vista installed it is a seamless machine we didn't have that kind of luck with lenovo or HP I was shocked to see that a 350,00 computer out proformed the $800.00 HP and the $500.00 Lenovo.  I should post this on a reviews site
