Windows 7 upgrade T61 questions

2009-08-23, 21:59 PM

I have a T61 7662CTO running Vista Ultimate.  I plan to purchase a Windows 7 Pro upgrade in October.

(1)  Will Lenovo be selling this Windows 7 upgrade software in October?

(2)  Will there also be System Restore disks sold by Lenovo for the Windows 7 operating system for my model?

(3)  Will I lose the ThinkVantage "blue button" functionality and partition if I upgrade using a normal Microsoft Windows 7 upgrade disk?

To answer your questions:

1) Lenovo will NOT be selling a Win 7 upgrade. Those machines that qualify for the upgrade

will receive it for free. Those machines not qualified will not receive the upgrade. The upgrade

requirements state that machines sold past June 25 are eligable, those sold before June 25,

are not.  These are the conditions put forth by Microsoft not Lenovo.

2) Lenovo cannot make Win 7 Reload CD's for older machines.

3) You should not lose use of the ThinkVantage button as a method of launching Productivity Center. The ability to reload the system via the button will be gone.  The upgrade re-writes the MBR, thus negating the utility that allows for use of the button for reloads.

Thanks.  I gather from what you said that I can still use R&R for backing up and that the blue ThinkVantage button will work for restoring the Windows 7 operating system from an R&R USB drive backup file.  Correct?
