Windows license - X100E - 287694G

2014-09-28, 9:21 AM

This is a general Windows License question. I bought a machine ref above. It has a Windows 7 Home  Prem OA label with a license key.

Where can I download the swedish version of this W7 version so I can install and activate according to Microsoft license rules.

Kenneth

There are places where you can download the ISO files. But according to Microsoft rules and policies the only way you can download them is to purchase it again.

Is there a recovery partition on your laptop? Try clicking on F11 when you first reboot the computer. Keep doing that until you get to a menu or windows starts. If that does not work, does this computer still boot windows?

I have to say no because I am a Microsoft MVP. This is because of Microsoft's position of the files that Digital River makes available for those buy windows thru them are only available buyers and not anyone else that can find the download link. I can tell you that the file you are looking for has a file name of sv_windows_7_home_premium_n_with_sp1_x64_dvd_u_676838.iso I just can't tell you that you can download it and use it to install windows. What you do with all this information is entirely up to you.

Thx a lot. What is a MVP role?

I want to follow the legacy rules that's why I ask.

I find it a bit unlogical however having bought a computer with a license but am not able to use it?

Do you see my point?

An MVP is basically made of people who help others with Microsoft products. Because of the help we give, Microsoft gives us the MVP.

Take a look here.

Hi Kenneth,

here you go: http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_7-windows_install/i-had-windows-home-premium-and-installed-it-on-my/5be21aaa-2e2f-4f29-a011-63c22fb8c8f5

( In the 2nd post by Mr. Stuart on that official Microsoft Forum you will find direct download links from the Microsoft server for Windows 7 Home Premium Swedish. Note these do not contain SP1, [Swedish with SP1 is a little hard to find, and you want to avoid questionable sites], but all you have to do is run Windows Update for a couple of days, and it will find and install SP1=Service Pack 1).

Just decide if you want to install Windows 7 Home Premium 32-bit (a.k.a."x86") or 64-bit (a.ka. "x64").

Here is another discussion from an official (authorized) Microsoft Forum in which the Swedish links are provided: http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_7-windows_install/does-windows-7-home-premium-come-with-only-one/ea0705bc-a4a8-4155-b0a2-758fd40020f1?msgId=5111d467-ac49-49d4-967f-9c3493d8241f&auth=1

(Please read the answer by Mr. Da Costa who is one of the Microsoft Forum Community Moderators and also a Microsoft MVP, as is Mr. Stuart whom I quote above.  [BTW, such titles don't impress me, but I mention them as  titles sometimes help people to feel more comfortable with disseminated information]).

From an official Microsoft Forum, here is a direct answer to the question, "Can I download MS Windows 7 from microsoft.com and use my current license? " : http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_7-windows_install/can-i-download-ms-windows-7-from-microsoftcom-and/0d8e52d1-0637-4bbd-ba53-4ecc072df338?msgId=0dd2b398-cd8d-4f32-afb6-b3198fcd02ec

(So there you have three references. "...In the mouth of two or three witnesses shall every word be established."- 2 Corinthians 13:1, the Holy Bible).

And here is an informative "rant" by yours truly (Anastasios) on this issue: http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Windows-7-Discussion/Win-7-Product-key-not-working/m-p/1024331#M11851.  (I posted this on the Lenovo Forum last year and it was also made into a Knowledgebase article). Note that I, Anastasios, have never and will never work for Microsoft. It is a greedy, monopolistic, over-sized bully. But don't ever be afraid of Microsoft. If you like to read, here is a long PDF detailing how Microsoft got its tail whipped by the EU: http://cep.lse.ac.uk/pubs/download/cp223.pdf  (In summary,

"In the various Microsoft cases, antitrust authorities in the United States and the European Union (EU) took on one of the most valuable companies in the world and its CEO Bill Gates, the world’s richest man. After five years of investigation, in March 2004, the European Commission held Microsoft guilty of abuse of its dominant market position under Article 82 of EU law and imposed the largest fine ever for such an antitrust violation in Europe: €497 million."

[Emphasis added]. This is what led to the Windows "N" versions: http://www.cnet.com/news/windows-7-n-the-n-editions-explained/. Anyway, I am not a fan of the EU commission either, but just happy to see Microsoft humiliated :smileywink:. Microsoft is, after all, a modern day robber baron).

So to summarize, yes, you can legally, ethically, morally download Windows 7 Home Premium Swedish and use it to activate the O.E.M. license key on the back of your Lenovo Thinkpad x100e. I have activated O.E.M. keys countless times. In my case I purchase used Thinkpads in large quantities and re-furbish them for re-sale or charity. I have downloaded every major version of Windows 7 and burned it to DVD and would encourage others to do the same. (Keep a hard copy of these things as you never know when grouchy old Microsoft may pull the links they now reluctantly provide). And if you ever purchase other Thinkpads such as T410 or x201 in the future, which often have a Windows 7 Professional OA sticker,  you'll want to bookmark this very useful site:

http://www.w7forums.com/threads/official-windows-7-sp1-iso-image-downloads.12325/

(The administrators of that Forum have been kind enough to neatly archive Windows 7 Professional download links from the official Microsoft e-commerce servers for many major languages, including Swedish :smileyhappy: And these include SP1, which makes it nice).

Make sure you have a stable Internet connection so you can download the Windows 7 ISO completely and burn it to a DVD. Once you have verified you have a complete, correct copy of Windows 7 on DVD, and have used it once to successfully install Windows, I would advise you to make a copy of it and keep the original safely stored away. Important: See my post here for some basic tips on initial activation of O.E.M. license: http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Windows-7-Discussion/Windows-7-key-is-not-working/m-p/1628032#M12558
