X201t + WIN8 installation = Compability problems with "ISD Tablet" and "Lenovo Auto Scroll"

2012-10-20, 7:56 AM

Hello,

today i started to install WIN8 at my X201t (2985) with WIN7 OS.

The Windows 8 Setup tells me that i must remove the App's "ISD Tablet" and "Lenovo Auto Scroll".

Afterwards i removed both applications manually and started the Windows 8 Setup again.

But the Setup shows me that i still have to remove both apps! Do you have an idea why both App's are anyhow still on my system? Are there newer versions available which are compabily to Windows 8.

Thank you very much! Have a nice day!

Regards Markus

Did you restart after removing the apps? thats the number one reason why setup will still compplain. also, if that doesnt work, try to reinstall and then uninstall them again.

I had exactly the same problem and went round the loop several times, restarting fron scatch (thanks to a cloned 'sacrificial' disk that I could reset).

To remove the Autoscroll, run Setup from c:\Drivers\Win\Hotkey and select Autoscroll for uninstallation.

I had 2 occurences of ISD to be uninstalled by the Windows 8 update. One was automatically uninstallable, and one was manual installation only. I automatically uninstalled the first. I had seen another 'manual' uninstall only which was PerfectDisk, which was not installed but the installation package was present on the PC. removing the installation package removed the 'Manual uninstallation' entry.

Applying the same logic, and working out that the ISD package is part of the MTouch Lenovo app, I did the following:

1) Went into Contol Panel  Device Manager and uninstalled all Wacom devices (incidentally the Wacom 2 Finger Touch is still there in my working Windows 8, so that can presumably be left. The devices are in the Human Interface Devices list.

2) Deleted the MTouch directories from c:\Drivers\Win and c:\SWTools and C:\Swtools\Drivers, after noting the dates of the ISD_, WISDPEN and WACOM files.

3) Searched the disk for ISD_*, Wisdpen.* and Wacom.* files matching those dates and deleted them. I probably deleted some that were not necessary to delete, and left some that should have been deleted. Wisdpen.sys now has a date of 4/1/2011, WACOMPEN.SYS 26/7/2012.

This appears to have done the trick.

I had fun unistalling the Lenovo Toolkit - the uninstall process under Windows 8 says it is uncompatible, so to uninstall it you have to say 'run it anyway' (it is the uninstall program objecting, not the program itself, which caused me some confusion). I suggest that you uninstall this before the upgrade as well.

After conversion I was getting a 'rundll32.exe c:\Program' error window. This may have been due to the Toolkit, but I also used Regedit to find 'rundll32.exe c:\Program ' and added quotes round the "C:\Program Files\...xxxx.DLL"  parameter as i think it was the space between Program and Files that was causing a command parsing error.

As they say, your mileage may vary, but I hope this helps you reduce the time and effort. I'm now trying to find out what Windows 8 gives me...

Regards, Keith
