XP Repair Install possible with generic OEM XP cd?

2009-07-23, 20:10 PM

It has been established that Lenovo does not provide the "Repair Installation" functionality to customers who have purchased Windows XP from Lenovo,  despite the fact that this functionality is a part of Windows XP.

Is it possible to perform a "Repair Installation" on a Lenovo Windows XP installation using a generic Windows XP OEM CD such as the one sold by newegg.com at the following link?

"Microsoft Windows XP Professional SP3 32-bit for System Builders - OEM"

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16832116515

Will such an OEM CD accept a Lenovo XP key printed on the bottom of the laptop during the "Repair Installation" procedure?

As ridiculous as it seems, I am willing to buy Windows XP twice in order to be able to repair my Lenovo Windows XP installation.

Please keep the replies on the subject of a repair installation,  not a system restore.  I am not interested in restoring the system from the hidden Lenovo partition.

Yes, The COA sticker key number will work with that OEM disc as far as I know. If not it surely will work with the number that comes with the disc.
