vista upgrade to question?

2008-01-09, 7:21 AM

I got a Lenovo 3000 J115 that currently has Microsoft Windows Vista Home Basic installed. With the computer I also received a “Windows Any Time Upgrade” disc. I was wondering if I would be able to upgrade to Vista Home Premium by using that upgrade disc and if I can could I get an estimate of how much I would need to pay. Would it be better to use the upgrade disc or just go and buy Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium?

Thank you!

Using the anytime upgrade disc or buying a different version of Vista is the same thing. All the versions of Vista are on the install/upgrade discs. The difference is in the Product Code number you buy. That determines which version gets installed. Upgrading just means adding missing features.
You need to hunt around for pricing, some retailers may have it cheaper than others.

Microsoft offer the updates online through the windows any time upgrade store. I wanted to provide a link, but due to cookies etc. I can't get from the european to the north american site. If you use the underlined words and search of the M$ website, you should find it.
As carbon_unit wrote, do have a shop around, use the M$ price as the maximum, a retailer should be able to offer it cheaper.

I'd reccomend that you compare the price in the Vista Upgrade site to the retail price of the upgrade.  It may be cheaper for you since you already have the vista media in that anytime upgrade DVD.

You can also get more information via Microsoft's FAQ on the anytime upgrade program here.
