Desktop looks similar to a folder

Not sure how but somehow my cat changed my desktop to be orginaized similar to a folder and I have no clue how to revert this. Any help would be greatly appreciated and it's windows 8.1 if that is needed to know

Re: Desktop looks similar to a folder

Hi hahadead7777,

Greetings.

If you do not have any encrypted files maybe you can have the option of simply jumping back to previous restore date via system restore (Restore your PC to an earlier point in time).

Regards

Re: Desktop looks similar to a folder

Sorry my internet was a bit iffy when I posted this and just remembered it. I have no idea about "encrypted files" and I literally just had a windows update 2 days ago so that's my only system restore point. Is there literally not a key combo I can press to undo the key combo that the cat ended up using?

Re: Desktop looks similar to a folder

Hi hahadead7777,

Greetings.

You can try to right click on the desktop and choose view > Medium that should revert icons placed in Details View ( CTRL + SHIFT + 6)

Else, try to type on the seach box for folder options to set it to defaults either on the general or view tab.

Likewise, check for any view option

If these won't work then it would always be best to back up your files before any changes if you decide to simply revert the machine back to previous restore date via system restore or create a new User account (local admin).

Update us how it goes best for you.

Regards

Re: Desktop looks similar to a folder

Thank you. I right clicked the desktop and View>Medium Icons and it reverted all changes. I'm not sure how that related to it but it worked Smiley Happy
