Lenovo Settings for Win8 available for download in general store

Check it out for yourself, I am not sure I can believe my eyes. Go to store>charms>search Lenovo settings.

Double check, from the old direct link if it spits any unwelcome message:

I only hope Lenovo has learned out of this and the other Apps are following this one into the shop without the customers having to force them!

Re: Lenovo Settings for Win8 available for download in general store

Thanks, it installed OK and brought in the dependancy package.

Shame it doesn't really do anything though.  For example, Power, the one I most wanted, you can only turn on of off battery stretch.  You can not change settings for what battery stretch does.  You also can not change battery charging thresholds.  You could do this with a custom power plan in Win 8 anyway with no need for the app.

Good it is in the store so there can be updates but it doesn't replace power manager unless I'm missing something.

Please tell me if I am.

Edit: Location Awareness looks good though.  It is unfortunate the Power option is so limited.

Nothing works for me.

Only Mobile Hotspot and Location Awareness

All the others just bring up practically blank pages - am I missing something ?

(And yes I have the dependency package installed already)

(T420s + Win8 64bit Pro)

Re: Lenovo Settings for Win8 available for download in general store

Just to add to this, I re-installed the dependency settings, then rebooted - after that when I went into the app again it asked me to download the updated dependency settings, it then installed that and then after a reboot it worked.

Have to say when you do get it installed its a bit of a let down. Spartan is the word best used to describe it.

Wasn't there another piece of software that was a metro app ?

Installed, updated, working.

Totally unimpressed. Makes you wonder what all the hype was about.

Re: Lenovo Settings for Win8 available for download in general store

I will update first post with some tips that worked for me for those who have installed and have buggy tiles, give me some time though.

For the amount of setting itself, I believe If we pitch in with suggestions and voice our opinions constructively, it might be heard and implemented. The app is still young. Power Manager for win7 is developed for a long time and I guess it will take from here to there with Metro one.

I personally like the automatic power managent so far, with the standard battery stretch option. I can say that battery life has improved for me. My laptop runs on battery power always so I can notice it.

Re: Lenovo Settings for Win8 available for download in general store

Well OK, you like it.

Power Manager on 7 you could set whether you wanted to charge a battery to a certain level.  For example stop at 80% With this you can not.

In 7 you could set battery strech to keep on Wifi (or not), keep on Audio (or not) reduce CPU (or not) etc.  With this app you can not.

I liked it so I could listen to the radio for example but if audio is turned off obviously it doesn't work.

It is useless really.  I'm back to regedit for the battery and power plan for the rest.

But...  I'm very glad it is in the store at last - I just want the ability to change settings as they were in 7 which was great,.  Especially the battery levels.

Since all OEMs were caught with this, the learning needed was not on the part of any of the OEMs......
