Windows XP system not starting due to corrupted files

My laptop suddenly won't boot-up.  It was OK, then gave me a black screen with message:

"Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt:

You can attempt to repair this file by running Windows Setup using the original

Setup CD-ROM.  Select "r" at the first screen to start repair."

I have the four disk set of Product Recovery CDs, but don't want to format and start over, if I don't have to.

You need a Win XP installation disk in order to repair the corrupted files, and the recovery discs won't work in this capacity, nor any other original files on your C: drive to repair a missing or corrupted file.

The  link  below provides a comprehensive description of this scenario. Follow the instructions in the link if you dont want to reformat or Recover your system to factory settings .
