64 bit Windows on Yoga 2 tablet

2015-07-14, 2:15 AM

I've just bought a Yoga 2 tablet with Windows 8.1.

It has 32 bit Windows installed. I have some questions;

1. Would 64 bit Windows work? My tech skills are a bit rusty but if I found the Windows registration/product key for my install, could I do a fresh 64 Win 8.1 install, using that product key?

2. Does anyone know why they decided to install 32 bit as default? Maybe there's a problem with 64 bit? I know the CPU is 64 bit, so I'm a bit confused why they chose 32 bit.

3. Does anyone have an opinion on the Windows 10 upgrade? Do you think it will offer the choice to upgrade to 64 bit Windows 10?

Thanks guys.

1. it means you will fresh install windows with 64bit, the original keys is only for your tablet with registered with your box. with version only windows 8.1 32 bit with bing. I think the key couldnt able to use if you change your version of windows 8.1 64 bit with other version,

2. 64 bit or 32 bit, depending on your ram, this tablet only 2 GB of ram, why install 64 bit?

3. windows 10 is the latest of microsoft product, we have to own it.. ;)

the 64 bit OSes wouldn't work without a bios update on Baytrail T tablets. Microsoft got several bugs with suspend and resume on 64 bit windows so, manufacturers send their products with 32bit UEFI Bioses disables us to use the 64 bit processor with 64 bit Oses (linux, windows, android ...) some peoples managed to run android and linux with some tricks, but it's hopeless for windows without a bios update or someone to build a coreboot image

best regards

Well this doesn't sound good. My Lenovo Yoga Tablet 2 13-inch model has 4GB of RAM, but due to the 32-bit OS I'm able to access ~2.5GB of it. Hopefully with Windows 10 Lenovo will send out updates for a 64-bit UEFI BIOS and then able to go with a 64-bit Windows 10 OS.

don't hope, lenovo don't publush bios updates like this, they sold new products, mix users still didn't get their update.

intel already published an updated bios with 64Bit efi.

If lenovo publish it, they'll give to each custommer a 64Bit os to be fully compliant to the new bios

don't be sorry, lenovo makes me angry, not all of you ;-)

debian released recently a debian multi arch image including an EFI x86 only bootloader.

disable Secureboot

download a recent image of debian x64 Jessy

http://cdimage.debian.org/cdimage/unofficial/efi-development/jessie-upload3/

(only netinst)

put it on you usb key with DD, or Lili

boot it on your yoga 2 with the usb host adapter and enjoy

sorry it's in french (from march 25)
