Miix 2 8, blank display

2014-03-28, 15:44 PM

I have a 1 month old 8" Miix 2 that allows me to login with my credentials, but once I'm in, the screen is blank.

You can see the trails of your fingers as you move them along the screen even the area where your finger touches shows on the screen, but nothing else.  I have powered it off and on again, because it allows you to do that, but once logged in, you see nothing.  You get nothing but the vibration feedback when you touch the windows button, the screen does not change

It's almost like the backlight or contrast is messed up.

Has anyone else experienced this?  If not, we'll have to send it back.

Thanks.

Are you selecting shut down or restart from the power menu?

Is fast boot on? Try turning that off. It shaves a few seconds from boot time by not initializing drivers, which could be related to your problem.

Thanks noxxle for the prompt reply.

I'm selecting shut down, by holding the power button. I get a prompt that says; "Slide to shut down your PC" so I do.

Then I restart with the power button. I don't know how I can get in to see if fast boot is enabled.

Is there any way for you to select restart instead of shut down before logging in?

In Windows 8, "shut down" isn't really a complete shut down, unless you turn off fast boot. However, restart still functions as it did in Win7 and will force drivers to re-initialize at boot.

*edit*

Fast boot is hidden in the control panel somewhere. You'll need to be able to login to turn it off.

There doesn't seem to be a way to select restart.

Instead of sliding to complete the shut down, try holding the power button even longer until it powers off.

Ok, well I did that. Held the power button and it seemed to shut down after about 15 seconds, but still no change. Got unit powered up again, logged in and same screen after Welcome.

WAIT - There seems to be a hardware issue. I was tilting the unit up and down, side to side and for a moment I saw my name on the screen.. Then a message from McAfee, which I had wanted to uninstall earlier. Now the screen is dark again, but you can see the trails of my previous movement on the screen.

Very strange.

Naw, it's not hardware...there's something else amiss here.

Update: Miix 2 8, blank display Factory Reset

2014-03-28, 21:07 PM

Called Lenovo and did a factory reset. I If anyone would like the instructions to do that;

Below is the steps on how to factory reset the machine

1. Turn off the device by holding power for 6-10 seconds

2. Tap the power button to turn it back on.

3. Once the lenovo logo appears, wait for circling dots to appear and then hold power for 6-10 seconds to turn device off again.

4. Repeat steps 2 & 3 until the logo appears with words underneath saying “Preparing Automatic Repair”

5. Recovery mode will start.

6. Tap advanced options

7. Tap Troubleshoot

8. Tap Reset -  (erase files / clean drive) - choose erase files

9. enter the code/ key

Reset will take about  20 to 30 minutes, when it's done it should go to the login screen.

Good luck
