Miix 700 Keyboard dropouts are so vexing - need firmware update!

2016-04-17, 19:56 PM

Many users have experienced this--the Miix 700 periodically stops accepting input from the keyboard so that several typed characters do not show up on the display.  For example, I might type "firmware needs fixing" only to see something like "feeds fixing" on the display.

Please update the firmware!  We need the keyboard to work like it should!  Right now I'm using a Bluetooth keyboard, but the included keyboard should be updated to work properly.

This error happened three or four times while typing this message.

Re: Miix 700 Keyboard dropouts are so vexing - need firmware update!

In response to customer reports of unexpected keyboard behavior when using Miix 700 2-in-1 systems, Lenovo has released a firmware update to improve customer experience.

The Service TIP with firmware can be found here: https://support.lenovo.com/us/en/solutions/ht501735

Please note that both the firmware and touchpad driver must be updated to v.12.8.11.13 or higher in order to fully implement this solution. The keyboard folio case should be connected during the update process in order for the updates to be successful.

If these updates do not improve the typing experience on Miix 700 systems, please contact Lenovo Service for a folio case replacement under warranty.

Thank you,

We are having alot of reports of this with our users on these devices.  We have about 120 of them distributed to teachers at different locations.

I am having the same issue you describe.  I will be typing along and all of a sudden my text is missing some characters.  It happened when I was typing the previous sentence, and I had to go back to correct the word 'missing'. Oh, irony.  I am almost certain this can be resolved with a firmware update just as the oversensitive touchpad was.  I would really like a fix soon.  If anyone has any suggestions on how to get this issue resolved, they are quite welcome

Fantastic! I am glad I found this forum and others that are having the same issue.  No need to exchange it for the same problem.  I really like this tablet, but this issue will drive me crazy.  I would really like a fix.  I have faith that it can be fixed.  Let me know if they require more cases to pursue a fix.

Has anyone noticed the issue to be more prevalent when the keyboard is in the "inclined" position?  It seems like it may be slightly better when it is all the way down on a flat surface.  I am trying all that I can to help eliminate any possibilities as to what may be causing this.  Has anyone else been able to narrow anything down?  Also, have you heard anything back from Lenovo?  I was thinking about giving them a call.  How many of your tablets are having this issue?

The most recent update is that its been escalated to there PE department.  Its either going to be a firmware update or its an actual build issue with the keyboard.  Laying the keyboard flat does seem to make it happen less but doesn't fix completely.  We have 120 of the miix tablets deployed that experience this issue.

I was able to test the machine with a keyboard from another system.  I had the exact same results.  The dropouts happened just as often.  If it is a hardware issue, it seems it plagues all of the keyboards.  I would be inclined to think it could be a short in the wiring of the keyboard, but the keyboard is having the issue even when completely stationary.  That is what has lead me to believe that it would be a firmware issue.

Same issue, posting here to hopefully get an update soon on a resolution.  I would say that typing with the keyboard flat is perfect so far.  I have not experienced an issue when it is not in the inclined position.
