Re: Miix 700 Keyboard dropouts are so vexing - need firmware update!

I purchased a Miix 700 and having read this thread between the time it was ordered and when it arrived today I decided to try an experiment.  I left the keyboard flat on my work surface from the time it was removed from the box.  I still had the key skipping problem that all of you have described so I don't think it is merely a problem when it is folded in place or from folding it.  I had thought of just returning it without opening it but I decided to take a chance - big mistake!

Has anyone heard from Lenovo recently on this issue?  The keyboard is not even functional at this point and unless Lenovo solves this problem I want my money back.  I had bought a used Surface Pro 3 with KB4 and Stylus4 which functioned pretty flawlessly but sold it as the battery life was atrocious.  I thought about buying a SP4 but I like the fact that the Miix uses Core-M chips and the price of the Miix was really decent.  If the keyboard problem was solved this would be a great machine but without a functioning keyboard, it is worthless to me.

OP here.  I don't think Lenovo cares. I created this thread several months ago.  Next time I will buy a Surface.

I decided I can't take the risk of Lenovo ever getting this problem fixed on the Miix 700 so I have returned mine for a refund.  I also went 3 months with a blue screening Thinkpad Yoga 12 due to faulty Lenovo drivers so with these two situations I think I am done buying Lenovo products.  Lenovo you have really gone down hill.

Disappointing there is no fix for this - clearly a lot of people are experiencing it (me too).

I was one of the people who complained about keyboard dropouts months ago.  Strangely I find they are getting better with time.  With the keyboard flat on the table they happen almost never, and with the keyboard slanted they are much less frequent now.

Every couple of days I separate the keyboard from the screen unit so I can clean them.  Then I snap them back together.  Could this frequent re-seating be helping somehow?  I'm still betting this is a physical problem involving momentary breaking of the electrical contacts between the two units.

In response to customer reports that the keyboard (folio case) of the Miix 700 provides an inconsistent typing experience, Lenovo has released a Service TIP as a solution. The Service TIP contains a firmware upgrade and a link to a driver update for the touchpad.

The Service TIP can be found here:  https://support.lenovo.com/us/en/solutions/ht501735

If these updates do not improve the typing experience on Miix 700 systems, please contact Lenovo Service for a folio case replacement under warranty.

Thank you,

Indeed :(  This is what I see when I try the firmware update on my Miix 700:

If I run it as administrator it says it can't find the file.
