Re: Miix 700 - issues after updating folio keyboard firmware

I found that if I close the folio (which puts windows to sleep), open the folio and then hit the power button to wake up windows that the touchpad works fine again....

I have just the machine back for repair again and clearly state the problem being a firmware issue and point them to this forum.

We certainly need as many ppl with this problem to contact Lenovo.   I also think raising this on any social media or review sites will b good... Mayb even a class action  if we identify enough ppl with this problem

Re: Miix 700 - issues after updating folio keyboard firmware

Hi all,

I've spent a bit more time digging into this issue and have finally worked out (pretty much) exactly what is going on. Basically, the touchpad is responsible for sending 3 main values for each finger: X coordinate, Y coordinate and Pressure/Surface area

When the fault occurs, the Pressure value is incorrectly reported as 0, even though there are X/Y coordinates being sent.

I've captured two videos that show this in action, firstly an intro to the Elan diagnostic tool:

And secondly, the actual fault occuring captured by the tool:

(Apologies for my voice, I'd just woken up :smileywink:)

Interestingly, this tends to indicate to a potential firmware issue (though could still be driver). I can't separate the two until I dump/decode the underlying USB protocol, which I may end up doing in linux as it's a little easier.

I also have an active case open with Lenovo, which they claim is being escalated to management, but we'll see if that actually leads anywhere.

Will keep you all updated as to how I go!

Good info, thanks!

Can you comment more on the best way to live with what's there at the moment... i.e. such as, would using an additional finger on the pad help deal with the problem?

Also, where did you get the Elan diagnostic tool?

Thanks in advance,

Beverly Howard

Hey @bevhoward,

The elan diagnostic tool is located at: "C:\Program Files\Elantech\ETDDeviceInformation.exe"

It'd be great if others could see if they could replicate the same issues as me.

In terms of how to deal with the current problem: I haven't found any entirely reliable work arounds. Often, simply tapping a key will help - weirdly, lifting up the front of the keyboard and dropping it an inch or so can fix it, which makes me think it may be related to the accelerometer in the case, which was the cause of the original keyboard issues.

The most reliable "fix" I've found is if you lift the keyboard and flex it slightly downwards, that seems to make the trackpad work, but is hilariously impractical, hence the need for a real fix :)

Thanks for digging into it!

Of what i've gathered so far, it seems to be a driver issue, considering it works fine in linux; which should rule out the firmware and hardware.

Let me know if you need to test anything in linux or if you need samples from another machine or whatever.

Cheers!
