Re: Miix 700 - issues after updating folio keyboard firmware

As noted by someone b4 I also noticed of I put a finger at the bottom edge of the mouse pad it allows the thing to function like normal but it would requires two hands or some finger acrobatics

>which makes me think it may be related to the accelerometer in the case, which was the cause of the original keyboard issues.

Anybody tried to disable the accelerometer ?

Found this in this forum, on how to re-enable it after a Windows upgrade:

https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Windows-based-Tablets/How-to-activate-the-accelerometer-after-windows-10-upgrade-for/td-p/2209708

Should be able to disable it using similar steps...

It's an interesting idea - In that particular post, it's referring to the accelerometer in the tablet itself (to detect screen rotation) not the keyboard-case.

I may be misremembering that the cause of the original keyboard issue on the miix 700 was accelerometer related anyway, but it's definitely odd that if you bump the case around sufficiently it seems to start working again!

From:

https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2351907

Regarding MS Surface Pro keyboard also having an accelerometer:

--------

accelerometers are highly noisy sensors. Most apps and such using them filter a range of 10 inputs out into 1 and use that as a more realistic average. Even then it wont be 100% correct and with 2 sensors each with their own inaccuracy, which is also amplified when the tablet is moving your likely to have a scenario where the tablet thinks its keyboard is not fully closed, unlocks itself and starts draining a teeny bit of battery in your bag as you ride the subway to work and the train is hurtling around a corner or something.

With a bit of filtering they are probably clean enough sensors that you could fairly reliably detect the screen being closed but there is still that chance of it over-riding itself.

---------

Being very noisy sensors, I'm not surprised that, as someone else reported, lifting the keyboard and dropping it on the table triggers the trackpad...

Food for thought !

Re: Miix 700 - issues after updating folio keyboard firmware

I've been fortunate and haven't seen the touchpad issues since updating the folio firmware. What I have noticed is that the pointer speed (with windows all the way up and some windows registry changes) is much slower than I would like. It seems like before the folio update the speed was better (maybe I was using the windows generic driver?).

Has anyone else seen this issue?

That's basically is the problem.. The touch pad still moves but very slow to almost no response but it's not like it won't move at all..

Not according to the other failure videos in this thread. The tracking is smooth and consistent, the pointer speed is just slower than it was pre-update.

Re: Miix 700 - issues after updating folio keyboard firmware

I've gotten my issue escalated through to 2nd level, and subsequently the engineering team (in the US).

Spoke to one of the reps today who was actually excellent/really helpful and very much knew what he was talking about.

Lenovo are going to try and replicate the problem on their own hardware (up to/including using a robot to constantly operate the touchpad until a failure is observed) and then try to debug whether it's firmware/software once they can recreate.

Alternately, if they can't I can send in my folio-case (or whole unit) if need be.

Interesting to see a couple of comments above from people who actually aren't experiencing the cursor-freezing issue after the firmware update, which is the first I've heard of this.

I'll keep you all updated as to how I go.

Well mine was always been a poor response rather than complete freeze.  It may feel like a freeze cuz it can become almost non responsive. I have already sent in new waiting second time arnd.. I'm surprised they let you escalate without sending it in for repair first.
