Re: Miix 700 - issues after updating folio keyboard firmware

2017-02-25, 9:57 AM

For those of you who bought this from Costco, Has anyone tried to take this up with them, as in a late return or concierge service/extended warranty?

And Lenovo, you truly are a piece of crap company. I have never seen this kind of neglect from an established PC manufacturer. Reading about what you've been putting other miix 700 customers through when they contact tech support or when they send in their miix 700 in make me cringe.

Issue a fix or buy your garbage back from us.

@straff / @rchewmd,

Yeah I had a similar dance with customer service until I actually got escalated to a support manager (it took quite a bit of pushing), who was actually quite good.

The reason the repair may be on "Engineering Hold" is that I managed to arrange a discussion with an engineering rep directly (who was great) and took them through the diagnostic information that I'd gathered, which (for the moment) broke the cycle of the 1st level support response of "you need to send it in to repair".

They acknowledged that their may be no physical repair possible/zero point in sending in, and that there may be a fundamental fault with the firmware/driver.

If they have found an underlying fault (and communicated it), all subsequent "repairs" will be on hold, as there's nothing they can do until they've developed a fix (which they said could take some time).

Worth noting that the driver and firmware aren't produced by lenovo directly, but rather by Elantech, so they'd need to engage them to develop a fix if that was the case.

I've got the direct number for the engineers working on this (or at least my contact) and I'll try to get in touch next week to see if there's been any progress.

I'm (cautiously) optimistic that they're taking this seriously and hoping Lenovo do the right thing and redeem what appears to have been a pretty poor track record with this product up to this point.

Here's hoping!

Re: Miix 700 - issues after updating folio keyboard firmware

Ok.. more update with mine.  It was escalated and actually they did contact me within 2 days.  The customer rep says they could replace the machine but unfortunately they only have machine with 128GB available (although he actually says mine was a M5 chip when mine's a M7 chip which I checked later).  So he says they could refund me but my preference is to still have this machine and since I likley can't replace it with the amount I paid (got a good deal), I asked what's the likelihood they can fix this somehow.  He's e-mailed the repair ppl, and actually they replied pretty quickly and admit that it seems like it's a firmware problem and it may be a while before they will have a fix.

So, there.. looks like the if it doesn't have a solution.. refund will be an option.  I am hoping they do have a replacement of the config I had and see if that could fix the issue with one that has the old folio case.  Although I am not sure why they can't just give me a folio case instead.

Will see what he says now that I corrected him on the config of my machine.

Still sounds like they're just making all this up on a case by case basis rather than a considered Problem based response

I think they are aware if the problem? At least they recognize there's a firmware issue.  The tech reply to the service rep is they are waiting for L2 regarding a fix for this issue.  I guess it can take a while to get a firmware fix? So if I'm not willing to wait they were willing to replace or refund the unit..

Seems absurd to return the computer.  The bottom line seems to be the keyboard, specifically the firmware and, if they ever fix that, it should be addressable without needing any return.

In the mean time, perhaps a small BT mouse.  I've been using a small BT mouse since day one even though I have to turn off the touchpad on every use... but that is still far less effort than dealing with any tech support system.

For me, a mouse is far preferable to any touchpad, and our investment is useless for every minute they have the computer and are doing nothing more than head (and perhaps other areas ;-) scratching.

I agree this shld b fix so everyone can get the problem resolve. I think it's even more important now for anyone with the problem to contact them about the problem n if possible ask to escalate without sending  the computer back.  That way they will realize there will b a whole bunch of refunds they will have to do if they dont get this fix soon.  Mayb that will get some urgency to have this fix.
