If that's the one, by any chance do you use linux?

I'd love to know if it works in ubuntu.

Re: Miix 700 - issues after updating folio keyboard firmware

Wonder if anyone have any ideas why this is happpening.  I noticed under device manager.. I do not have the Elan driver listed under the mouse section.  I have installed this a few times and still it's not showing up and when I go to the mouse section for options...Under Elan, the device is empty and I no longer able to select options.  I seem to be able to do that when I first tried with this new keyboard.

Any ideas how to get that Elan driver running?  I only see HID compliant mouse now. I did delete the file before.. but in teh past it will show up again.

rchewmd the Elan driver doesn't work on my keyboard either after I reflashed it back to 0009, it seems to need the 0010 firmware in order to recognise the hardware and control it.

Re: Miix 700 - issues after updating folio keyboard firmware

This is an interesting turn of events. When the 720 was introduced I also asked my self if its keyboard would fit the 700. After doing some size comparisons of the two tablets (based on online data) I concluded that the 720's keyboard is somewhat longer than the 700's, hence I abandoned that plan.

So how do they compare in practice? Are they exactly the same size? I don't want to have a larger keyboard on my machine, iven if it is by a few millimeters.

Also, and this is the most important, how does the touchpad behave? Do you have lag when moving the cursor? Is the precision good? Can you for example easily resize a window? And slowdowns/freezes?

If it has the same size, and functions properly, I would be tempted to buy one. Maybe the higher current draw is a problem long-term, but I think it only applies to the back light and I could do without it (i.e. just leave it off).

The 720 keyboard is actually shorter than the 700 keyboard. However, the difference is less 1mm.

Miix 700

  • Tablet
  • (inches) : 11.5" x 0.35" x 8.27"
  • (mm) : 292 x 8.95 x 210
  • Folio Case
  • (inches) : 11.53" x 0.22" x 8.82"
  • (mm) : 293 x 5.5 x 224

Miix 720

  • Tablet
  • (mm) : 292 x 210 x 8.9
  • (inches) : 11.5" x 8.27" x 0.35"
  • With Keyboard
  • (mm) : 293 x 216 x 14.6
  • (inches) : 11.53" x 8.5" x 0.57"

The 720 keyboard is noticeably thicker (and heavier) as it has longer key travel. For some reasons it always takes me a few more attempts to attach the 720 keyboard to the tablet. While the 8 pin pogo pins are identical on both keyboard, the two plastic pillars beside the pogo pins on the 720 keyboard are probably a bit bigger.

The trackpad is as good as the one on surface pro 4 though it is not glass-coated. No problem with any two- and three-finger gestures.

Those dimensions are a little deceptive. I've just measured my Miix 700 folio case and it is indeed 224mm when laid out flat. But in practise when connected to the tablet and closed up, the whole unit is measures as 216mm. That's the same overall dimension as the Miix 720.

Re: Miix 700 - issues after updating folio keyboard firmware

First of all a big thank you to lewislee999 for sharing with us the firmware downgrade method, a great find! I followed the instructions and downgraded mine fron 0010 to 0009, and here are the results, in Windows:

I don't experience lag anymore, the pointer is snappier when moving.

Two finger vertical and horizontal scrolling works.

Pinch zoom works.

Tap once to zoom in browser works.

Multi finger gestures don't work.

Innertial scrolling doesn't work anymore. Now the scrolling is proportional to your finger's  movement, and if you scroll above a certain speed the scrolling slows down and may even skip or revert (if you scroll too fast). Not a problem for me, I got used pretty fast to that - it's the way my desktop's mouse scroll wheel also behaves.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

There is no need to remove the Elan driver, just make sure to reboot after the firmware is done flashing and your touchpad works again. After the reboot the driver is inactive as it doesn't recognize the touchpad anymore.   You can make sure of that if you go to the Elan setup tab, you will see that the device list where previously the touchpad appeared is now empty.

I had to decrease both pointer movement speed and number of lines scrolled by the scrolling wheel, as with the default windows driver they were both too fast. I set the number of scrolling lines to 1 (down from 3),and the pointer speed pretty low too.

I did not notice freezing or keystroke misses YET, but I will keep using it and post an update. Alltogether it is a much better experience. The lag of the 0010 firmware & Elan driver combination, although you get used to it (as you can't avoid it), is very irksome after all and getting rid of it is nothing short of great.

I lost multifinger gestures, but if I don't get freezes and missing keystrokes they are well worth sacrificing - at least for me.

Will keep you updated.
