Re: Miix 700 - issues after updating folio keyboard firmware

Exactly this! I can't believe we're having this conversation!

it's what it should have been from the beginning with a 700

Re: Miix 700 - issues after updating folio keyboard firmware

This one is for moustacheful and everyone else who runs Linux on the 700 (or wants to).

I booted the live image of Ubuntu 16.04.1 to check the functionality of the 720's keayboard with it:

  • Horizontal and vertical scrolling work (tested with a very high res image in Firefox)
  • Two finger tap brings up the context (right click) menu
  • Three (or four, sorry i forgot) finger tap brings up the unity search tab
  • Somehow i managed to bring up the task switcher while tapping around but i can't remember which combination that was and i wasn't able to reproduce it
  • I could not get pinch zooming to work, but i guess that is a OS limitation as looking around in the settings i could not find a setting for it.

I hope that helps.

A small (negative?) side-effect of my testing:

In order to boot from the USB stick i changed the bios boot option from "UEFI" to "Legacy". After finishing the tests with Ubuntu, i switched it back to UEFI and the device will not boot anymore with the 720's keyboard. I tried a while, but the only way to get it to boot again from then on (with the 720's keyboard) is to leave the setting on "Legacy". I might experiment a bit more on this by reloading default settings on BIOS to see if i can have UEFI boot again with the new keyboard.

just one quick question? when the keyboard is flipped back so that i can use it as a stand (with the keyboard keys facing the bottom of the surface, haha hopefully this makes sense), does it deactivate like the 700 keyboard?

It doesn't, just tried it. I never noticed the 700 keyboard does that.

There is a workaround for that though, you can take off the keyboard and attach it back the other way around, with the buttons facing away from the surface (facing the tablet's back instead. If you do that the keyboard is deactivated, much like the 700 one.

Attaching the keyboard the other way around is also handy for when you want to use the device as a tablet and have nowhere to store the keyboard. Much better than having the key side resting against your forearm.

Re: Miix 700 - issues after updating folio keyboard firmware

Hi!

Regarding the behaviour of the 720 keyboard in the miix 700:

So if I want to use it as a tablet the same way as I do with my current 700 keyboard, putting the keyboard at the back of the device with the keys touching my legs, the keyboard won't be disabled and the keys will respond to pressure??

Thanks in advance.

Hello Kilador

Correct, the 720 keyboard doesn't get disabled in that position, the keys still work.

Thanks for confirming Erevos.

Well that kinda sucks :/ can it be fixed by software/driver or is it a hardware related thing?

I found this website that sells the 720 keyboard for some language distributions.

www.tiendalenovo.es

Use the search box to see if your part number is there (part numbers are at page 69 on https://download.lenovo.com/consumer/mobiles_pub/miix720-12ikb_hmm_201611.pdf )

I see that mime costs 40€.

I  will try the 009 firmware and if it doesn't work well I might buy the 720 keyboard (or just return the 700 to Lenovo for a refund and buy some other well functioning brand, what the hell!)

Not sure if anyone notice the same thing but after a recent update with windows it seems the touchpad is working better (having downgraded by to 0009 version).  Not sure if it improve issue with the newest firmware?

Re: Miix 700 - issues after updating folio keyboard firmware

Anyone have an update without changing it to the 720 keyboard?

I used the 720 keyboard for a few weeks and now its touchpad is not working after windows update, and there is sometimes a disconnection issue. Just wonder if anyone is able to work with the original keyboard...

Many thanks!
