Windows 10 running very slow on Yoga 2 tablet after ISO upgrade

2015-07-31, 16:11 PM

After upgrading to Windows 10 on my Yoga 2 (1351, 13") tablet, I notice now that it is running very slow, much slower when I was running 8.1.  Anyone else have this experience and if so, any workarounds.  I was thinking of doing a refresh first, then if it doesn't improve, a clean install of W10, and if all else fails, revert back to Windows 8.1.  Thoughts anyone?

I would try a refresh/reset
(The procedure applies to 8 and 10, as stated in the heading of the linked article)
Links for anyone that may not know how

If you can't get to the options from within windows, you can do it this way.

forums.lenovo.com/t5/Windows-based-Tablets/How-to-recover-a-Yoga-tablet-2-with-Windows-8-1/td-p/1802743

Be careful with a clean install.
Activation of the OS may be an issue.
Microsoft advises to upgrade, wait for activation, then refresh/reset. According to them, this is comparable to a clean install and won't have issues activating your upgrade to 10 (though depending on the activation server load, it may take some time to authenticate your install.)

Re: Windows 10 running very slow on Yoga 2 tablet after ISO upgrade

I am having the same issue with my Yoga 2 Pro 8 incher tablet.

Win 8.1 runs like silk and so does Windows 10 for the 1st 10 minutes then browsing my PC it just turns into a laggy mess taking 10-20 seconds to open folders until I sign Out and in again or reboot...

I have all the latest drivers (including Lenovo ones) and I did fresh install, but it's still grinds to a halt after 10 minutes... even thought the CPU or HDD are not being used more than 5%.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

ISSUE RESOLVED:- (Well for me, and hopefully for you... need to test more to make sure it was this)

The intolerable lag in Windows 10 was resolved by DISBALING the LENOVO SMART SWITCH service  in ADMINISTRATIVE TOOLS/SERVICES located in the Control Panel

If you want to observe the instant speeding up of your system when it's lagging open the TASK MANAGER and hit END TASK on the LENOVO SMART SWITCH service.

Not sure what this service does in WIndows 8.1 or Windows 10 but I ain't missed it.

This helped me too

Thanks for the note.  I thnk you may be on to something as I did what you said and it did produce significant results.  However, the Lenovo Smart Switch comes back and has to be disable again and again, i.e., End Task through the Task Manager.  Can I disable it permaneately and if so how?  Not sure what 'Smart Switch' does and if in fact this is a permanent solution to the issue or if it something that is required in some form or fashion.

Sorry, just recognized that you can disable it through Control Panel as you sain--and have now done that.  Will report back on any developments on this.

Thanks.

I can confirm after using my device for a number of days this was the process killing the speed of my device.

It's been perfect now and runs slightly faster than Windows 8.1. Also I noticed the SD Card seems to run around 2-4Mb faster... averaging around 15Mb/s for large files. (Was around 11Mb/s in 8.1)

I did see that LENOVO SMART SWITCH is a process that runs on Android https://support.lenovo.com/sa/en/documents/ht101964... it has no dependancies in Windows.. and my device does everything it did before. I would also assume later it could be turned back on once the bugs are ironed out in the new OS.

I for one will prolly leave it disabled... who needs android when you have a PC =D

Hi Yanishka,

Thanks so much for this tip regards the Lenovo Smart Switch.  Works like a charm and very pleased with response now on Windows 10 to the point that I believe Windows 10 is more responsive than 8.1 was.  Anyway, thanks again for the heads-up on this.  Well done!

Mike

I had this exact problem. After reading some forums I decided to upgraded the DPTF Driver. As soon as the driver install was complete my Yoga 2 was back to lightening speed. Here's the drive link: http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/downloads/ds104069
