Windows 10 upgrade yet on the K3011W

2015-07-29, 18:06 PM

Anyone try the Windows 10 upgrade yet on the K3011W?

It's very close to working, but the NIC, while appearing to be problem-free in Device Manager, is X'd out on the tray and sees no networks. I'm working through whether it's the driver that had been working in 8.1 or something else, but would like to hear other experiences.

I recieved a message saying that the manufacturer hasn't released a video driver for windows 10 and didn't even attempt to install my reserved copy of windows 10.  Then the Windows 10 app is no longer active on the system tray/taskbar.

I downloaded the latest Intel chipset drivers from a link in this thread: http://www.tenforums.com/drivers-hardware/7762-latest-intel-chipset-device-software.html, but it didn't explicitly say that it supported Windows 10 32-bit, but it did list Windows 10 x64.  I'm not sure if this was an oversight or if it didn't have updated 32-bit drivers in the distribution.

I tried getting the Windows 10 App back using the method outlined here: http://www.keenandgraev.com/2015/06/01/get-windows-10-app-is-missing-heres-the-fix  But that didn't work for me.

It sounds like it just installed without a problem for you, other then the NIC problem.

I am open to any suggestions to get the Windows 10 app to try and re-check compatibility now that I installed the updated drivers.

Same issue here with my Idea Tab Lynx. I have checked and Intel is working on new graphics drivers, but no indication of how long it will take until it is released. You can use the Intel Driver Update Utility to keep checking for a new driver or wait until a new driver is released in Windows Update.

Try downloading the ZIP file of the Intel's driver. Go to Control panel, Device Manager, Display Adapter, Update drivers and choose manually from disk (Extracted Drivers Folder).

This should force update to the latest drivers.

Have you actually tried this and were successful in loading Windows 10?

Sorry my device is MIIX 2 8. But I was suggesting to try and manually update your drivers and see if that helps.

I can you you about my experience:

I have installed Windows 10 on my Lenovo K3011W tablet.

It appears to be working. The wireless networking does work and it connects to my LAN and internet.

There is an issue with the display drivers.

Windows 10 installs the Microsoft Basic Display Adapter drivers -- which work, but the screen back-light will never turn off (unless the device is completely powered off). This means, even in sleep mode, the tablet will be sucking the battery dry because the back-light is on.

I had this problem when Windows 8.1 was rolled out.

The solution is to get the Intel Graphics Driver for the K3011W and install it, replacing the Microsoft Basic Display and the Intel Graphics Adapter.

But, because Windows 10 has automatic updates enabled, you will end up in a fight with Windows Update because it will want to replace the Intel driver with the Microsoft driver. The only way to get around this is dig through the Security and Updates Advanced settings, until you find the section where you can tell it to not install drivers from Microsoft automatically.

I didn't know that this thread had been moved.

OK, on the graphics driver, W10 never had a problem with it. I had, or at least have, v9.14.3.1177. Perhaps I updated it back in the Win81 days.

On wifi though, it's driving me absolutely crazy. If you could give me the exact version number you're using, that might be helpful. I had been using 5.93.97.83 in Win81, but I tried even the very new 5.93.103.20 from the Microsoft Update Catalog. I don't think it's the driver, it's some other wacky thing (though not the now-infamous Cisco VPN issue, as I have no VPN software), but it would still be great to know what you're running.

Did you do an upgrade install of W10 (and not one where you later reset everything, which is sort of the same as a clean install)?  I'm trying to avoid a clean install.
