16GB SO-DIMMs work in X250

2015-03-02, 9:57 AM

Two different people at Lenovo told me that the X250 with Broadwell-U would be working with the Intelligent Memory 16GB SO-DIMM modules (part# IMM2G64D3LSOD8AG).

I have the modules on hand, now I just need a machine. If anybody from Germany is here in the forum, please contact me, then we can test!

You might ask one of the X250 owners in the German ThinkPad forum.

I added a link to your request to this thread there:

Re: 16GB SO-DIMMs work in X250

Update: The dealer just called me. Moduls snap into X250, the BIOS boots fine and the memory-diagnostic tool is running fine since 30 minutes. He will continue running for some more hours and later give me a final Go.

Now we need dealers/re-sellers to offer these 16GB SO-DIMMs (full part# IMM2G64D3LSOD8AG-B15E)  worldwide.

If you are a Lenovo reseller, wholesaler or have an online-shop, please get in touch with the distributors of Intelligent Memory to retrieve pricing and availability. E-Mail address for any country worldwide: info@intelligentmemory.com

The modules are in stock and ready to ship.

End-customers may also get in touch with their favorite Lenovo dealer and inform them about these products to ask if they would be able to supply them. Or ask Intelligent Memory if there is already a known reseller to buy the modules

I hope this email is acceptable for Lenovo. It is not meant as spam or bad advertising in any way. I think it is a great news for Lenovo!

@CHfish: That is a registered 240 Pin DIMM module. Very different!

1) Pinout does not fit. 240 vs 204 Pin

2) Dimensions do not fit at all (the DIMM is much too long)

3) Module has ECC, not supported by Thinkpads

4) it is made of 36 Chips x4, while Thinkpad can take only modules made of 16 Chips in x8

5) the DIMM is registererd. Thinkpads support unbuffered modules only

I just recieved the module.  Removed the external battery, took off the cover, unhooked the internal battery, and installed it.

The machine turns on, but I get nothing on the screen.  The keyboard backlight flashes once and that's all the activity I get.  I've tried reseating the module with no luck, so I've got my 8GB back in there.

Have I missed a step?

good question. i know at least 5 people who used them in a X250, some more in other Thinkpad models. All worked fine. Magazines also tested them, also fine.
Maybe it did not go deep enough into the socket and got a connection problem?
Give it another try. Did you buy online or from a local dealer?

I bought it online, from the US link above.

I've reseated it several times just to make sure.  Perhaps I got a bad one :(
