Driver matrices for Win8 upgrade-capable systems - ThinkPad X Series

2012-10-29, 17:27 PM

To support the General Availabilty (GA) release of Windows 8, below are the direct URLs to the driver matrices for systems, within this family, that Lenovo has designated/certified as Windows 8 upgrade-capable. The direct links may save you time as you work through the upgrade process and require drivers compatible with your hardware configuration. The URLs were checked to be valid/working as of 10/25/2012. Please do post if you find errors.

Hope this helps ease your transition.
Cheers.

Re: Driver matrices for Win8 upgrade-capable systems - ThinkPad X Series

I do notice that there are a few things missing from the X220 for Windows 8, for example:

Webcam driver

Bluetooth driver

Power Manager application

Rescue and Recovery application

Autolock applicaiton

Hotkey integration features driver/app

Simpletap application

Lenovo Solutions Center application

Access Connections Application

I do notice that the majority of these are available for the X230.  Will these be released for the X220 as well?

Thanks!

'afternoon...

welcome to the community.

i'd keep an eye on the matrix for more updates over the coming days/weeks/months, but there are no public timetables i've seen.

cheers.

Take a look in the Win 8 forum here... some of the drivers you are expecting no longer exist in the Win 8 environment.

Cheers,

Thank you for this useful post.

I have done a clean install of Win 8 Pro on my X220. Most things that I expected to need additional drivers for (volume buttons, brightness control, thinklight etc) seems to work without without installing any extra drivers.

I remember in my factory windows 7 install there was a driver update utility which I could use to inform me exactly what drivers needed updating. What is the name of this utility and is it supported under Windows 8?

if anyone is looking for the power manager application, if you install power management driver 1.66 (windows 8) and then install the power manager application under windows 7 compatibility it will install and run just like it did in 7. heads up though, you'll have to search for power manager itself as it isn't listed in the driver matrices, but it's definitely available!

Thinkpad x60 with a Mobile Intel Core 2 Duo (processor model: T5500) runs the 64-bit version of Windows 8 pretty well. Of course, I would mention that the stock hard drive size with a Thinkpad x60 would probably make things tight when it comes to hard drive space free. However, the Thinkpad x60 can support  a 500GB sata hard drive. In addition, it is also possible to put a wireless N card in the Thinkpad x60 as well bring it up to date with wireless network technology. The wireless N upgrade is a little pricey and might take a while to ship from overseas to the USA speaking from experience.

Here is a link to the processor if your interested.
