Fingerprint LED on when laptop has been turned off.

2011-05-31, 5:30 AM

Inside Windows I can only turn off the green light. I don´t think that´s the solution? Sorry to write here about this, but I thought it´s BIOS related.

Thank you for the quick help!

I checked the advice. But in my fingerprint software 5.9.4 I dont have this option. I can only deactivate "logging into windows with fingerprint" (sorry for the translation, but mine is in German).

My Windows 7 x64 is installed "UEFI only" .

Maybe that´s the reason?

@skydesigner,

If that's the case, try going to More settings and uncheck "enable indicator lights on sensor"... see if that helps.

by turning off this setting, the light is out. But the fingerprint reader still works (and needs energy). so not a solution.

I found out this is only by installations in UEFI Mode.

Maybe the engineers should know. So they could fix it. Or its a software issue.

@skydesigner,

An engineer told me that this issue is being looked into several issues on the UEFI mode installed Windows

I discovered that if you briefly pull and reinsert the battery, the LED turns off and the fingerprint reader doesn't respond. I don't know if this means it is completely powered off, but it might be a workaround.

I'd like to see Lenovo implement it so that when the screen lid is closed, the fingerprint reader is completely shut down, but when you open the lid it activates and you can swipe to power up/resume. Then it would be the best of both worlds.

Not sure if this helps but I was having a very similar problem where I would perform a shut down and about 5 seconds later, the finger reader light would turn and as a result, the wan and bluetooth turned on. This triggered the laptop into hibernation mode and never truly turned off and thus the battery slowly drained. I was actually more concerned about it over heating when my laptop was tightly sealed in my zip case. At any rate, if you launch the finger reader and go to settings->authentication and uncheck both 'Use finger print scan instead of power-on...' options then the laptop will do the standard shut down and completely power off. I was on the phone with Lenovo support for 5 hours and they concluded that my motherboard was faulty!! What a joke....I realized the finger reader was the issue when I removed my fingerprints in preparation for a return!

Maybe you meant sleep mode? Hibernation copies memory to disk, followed by a complete power off.
