X230 expresscard adressing (eGPU)

2012-07-08, 22:27 PM

Hi

I have a problem connecting an PCIe card to the expresscard slot on the X230. The PCI bus starts at DFA00000 and this simply does not leave enough aressing space for a device that require 256MB of adressing space.

This issue was fixed in the X220 in a BIOS update

<1.24-1.13> UEFI: 1.24 / ECP: 1.13 - (New) Improved memory resource allocation process to reserve more memory space         for optional hardware devices.

Is it possible to implement this fix is the X230 as well.

Thanks.

I also hope this is fixed. Again, was fixed by Lenovo for the X220 quite promptly

If Lenovo can't give you a bios fix then ask them to give you a DSDT override software fix. Lenovo could effectively do the same thing as the DSDT override in their bios DSDT table which would be a very easy solution for them.

PS: would help if the title of this thread had eGPU in it since it seems eGPU users are the most affected.

I have just put in an order for an X230t and it is a shame to hear that the past has been repeated regarding reduced functionality of the express card slot. I hope you can fix it as I will have no option but to send mine back just as it arrives :/ Something similar to the X220 fix would be good, that catered for everyone well. I will be checking back for any progress.

I am very happy that I am not the only one who is realy upset that Lenovo made the same mistake again und so we have to wait for a fix.

But is there any way see whether this topic was acknowledged by the technical department? I only know this procedure from dell and there ervery topic which is gooing to be disscued is marked and then you cann see the planning steps and finaly the result oder the rejection.

This is the one thing currently holding me back from getting this laptop.  Please fix this, Lenovo.

(I'd order now if I got so much as a promise that they'd fix it, but as it stands...)

Has any effort been made to contact the staff members active on this forum, or the technical department directly ?

I dont think so. I thought that this forum is the most direct way to complain about something and demanding a fix.

But in the moemtn I see no reaction of the staff.

But I am still confident that we get a Tolud fix because there is no logical reason to fix this on the X220 and not on the X230.

Because besides this eGPU and tolud problems is the X230 extremly nice :) And I dont want to give it away anymore.

Just recently bought up an X230t and this issue is affecting my ability to use this laptop effectively as a workstation. Lenovo, please address this issue as you did with the X220!
