G32QC Monitor not properly responding to DDC/CI commands

2020-07-10, 18:55 PM

I was trying to setup automation between my work and home PCs to let me switch my monitor between the two systems programmatically.

I have two monitors, an HP Omen 32 and the Lenovo G32QC.

When querying the VCP status, the  G32QC has an odd response for the Input Select (0x60) command interrogation.  It responds that the possible values are 0, 17, 15.   The 17 is HDMI and the 15 is DisplayPort.  0 seems to be an unknown option.  However, it also response that the maximum accepted value for this command is 14.  That makes no sense.

When sending commands to the G32QC, I am unable to change the input.  When I send any of those values, regardless of which one, the screen blinks like it is going to change, but then stays on the input that was already selected.  This behavior is inconsistent with how it should operate if it were VESA compliant DDC/CI.

Just in comparison, my HP Omen responds that it accepts 15, 17, 18 as possible values (corresponding to DP, HDMI1, HDMI2) and has a maximum value of 18, which makes sense, and sending command codes properly changes the input mode.

To verify, I tried this with both EnTech softMCCS and NirSoft ControlMyMonitor.  Same results in both.

Can we get a firmware update that fixes this problem?

Thanks!
