y27gq-25 refresh rate can not go higher than 200 Hz

2019-12-04, 12:53 PM

I just got the Y27gq-25 27" monitor, which should be able to do 2560x1440@240 Hz.

I'm running Windows 10 and I have an Nvidia GTX Titan X (Maxwell/980 Ti equivalent) and I get no higher refresh rate option than 200 Hz in the Nvidia Control Panel. I have tried reinstalling the drivers using the clean install method and also installed the Lenovo monitor driver. Windows still refuses to let me choose 240 Hz.

Image quality at 200 Hz is also a lot worse compared to 144 Hz and 60 Hz, text is harder to read and has chromatic abberation distortion.

The monitor is connected with the supplied DP cable. I've tried both DP ports on the GPU. I've tried rebooting the computer, unplugging/replugging the cable multiple times and tested all the OSD options on the monitor.

It's either my GPU or the monitor that's faulty. Any ideas?

Hi uppe!

Welcome to the Community Forums!

Yes, the Y27gq-25 27" monitor supports 2560x1440@240 Hz. You can check it also on the OSD options.

Have you tried a different version of the drivers for the Nvidia GTX Titan X? Some users say that the option for 240hz disappears after a driver update.

If the issues persists on different drivers, open the Nvidia Control Panel app as there is a portion that you can customize a resolution and refresh rate. You can try to reconfigure it which may be an option to work.

Let me know if this works.

Regards,

Jerry_Lenovo

Re: y27gq-25 refresh rate can not go higher than 200 Hz

Thanks for responding, Jerry.

I did see that some users reported that, so I tried installing older drivers than they were reporting. However, it did not work. I even lost the "200 Hz" option and was left with 144 Hz as maximum. So I may as well use the latest drivers.

The Nvidia control panel is no different than the Windows display adapter settings, I can not pick any higher option than 2560x1440 @ 200 Hz. Image quality is still noticably worse than 144 Hz.

I had a long session with NVIDIA support who guided me through their steps and routines. I upgraded the firmware on my graphics card related to DisplayPort 1.4, which also did not help. The final answer from Nvidia is this:

Thank you for the update. On checking the details, the issue seems specifically on your monitor or the cable itself. The graphic or the motherboard will not limit the refresh rate.

Best Regards,
Syed
NVIDIA Customer Care.

What do I do now? Do I throw out the monitor or my graphics card? I am sure you guys would like to blame each other all day... All I want is a working product.

I have been playing around with the custom resolution option in NVIDIA Control Panel, but I have not yet figured out which values to enter in the Display Timings section. If I use 2560x1440 @ 240 using CVT reduced blank mode, the OSD refresh rate indicator reports 240 Hz, but the image is just black and eventually it reverts back to my previous settings.

In the Windows monitor driver/definition/.inf file there are a couple of registry entries for display modes, which I figure should be possible to map to these values. Can you assist with this? Please ask a technical engineer if possible.

Re: y27gq-25 refresh rate can not go higher than 200 Hz

@Jerry_Lenovo Jerry? Anyone? I am going to have to return this monitor as it must be faulty. I have tried everything possible except swapping my graphics card. I tried many older version of nvidia drivers which only gave me worse outcomes.

I posted on a monitor enthusiast forum here https://forums.blurbusters.com/viewtopic.php?f=16&t=4826&start=80#p45422 where I detail my troubleshooting steps.

The monitor simply does not accept higher refresh rates than 200 Hz, so what can I do? The graphics card should be capable of delivering the correct refresh rate, I'm running the latest drivers, I upgraded my GPU firmware to support DisplayPort 1.4. I use the bundled "8K" DisplayPort cable.

Y27gq-25 does not have the 240hz option

2020-09-18, 8:14 AM

I've seen this problem reported before and I have the exact same issue: https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Y-Gaming-Accessories-Curved-Gaming-Monitors/y27gq-25-refresh-rate-can-not-go-higher-than-200-Hz/m-p/4591223

But no solution has been offered. In nvidia control panel I can only select 200Hz or less. I have nvidia gtx 970 and I'm using DP.
