Yoga Book C930 Android x86 Installation Guide

2020-04-02, 8:23 AM

Android x86 works great with YB C930. But there are still issues, the sleep is not working and Wifi will stop working after the device tried to sleep.

If you want to try it out, here is the quick steps to install Android x86 in your Yoga Book C930:

  1. Download android-x86_64-9.0-r2.iso (not the k49 version)
  2. Download Rufus and burn the iso to a USB disk
  3. Download my edited version of android.cfg and replace the efi/boot/android.cfg in USB disk
  4. Boot Yoga Book C930 from USB disk
  5. You can use Live version to try it out or alternatively install to your YB C930
  6. The installed file can co-exist with your Windows (very important, please make sure your choose "Do not re-format" when you are asked to), it will create a android-9.0-r2 folder in the selected partition
  7. After the installation, you will need to change the boot sequence in BIOS if Windows is still your primary OS

You can find the full installation guide here: https://github.com/jerryjiang/Yoga-Book-C930/blob/android/README.md

I would love to see some video review on how the android os runs on yoga book c930.

Would you be able to post one on the youtube? You'd be a rock star!!!  :)

I figured a way to make the Wifi work after the Sleep try. When Wifi is done, bring up the built-in app "Dev Tools" > Select Connectivity > Click DISABLE WIFI button. The screen will flash for a secon, and your Wifi is back.

If you search Android x86 9.0 in youtube, you should find lots of review already, it is same thing.

I am currently trying BlissOS which comes with Android 10.0, even it is still in beta, it looks better to me. I may send another guide to install BlissOS later.

Figured another trick, for the sleep and WiFi issue, there is a workaround: when you boot Android, select Advanced options > Android-x86 9.0 r2 - Vulkan support (experimental). Both sleep and WiFi should be OK now, but for me, the sleep comsume battery the same way.

Really cool! Android runs waay better on the yoga book than windows does. Much less lag and generally very responsive. I guess lots of apps like Kindle require native libraries which don't yet exist for x86_64 but definitely a really promising start. Any work being done on the EInk screen or SDK that would be a cool bonus.

The Eink SDK is based on Windows and close source, so it will be extremely difficult to port that to Android.

To disable the Eink keyboard could be easier, but still causes time. I've struggle very long time to make the keyboard work in macOS, giving up... You will find the EFI in the same repository if you are interested.

The touchscreen is not working? That's weird, my touchscreen works great on Android x86 and BlissOS.
