Yoga Book C930: How to mirror the e-ink screen on the LCD screen?

2018-11-27, 8:26 AM

Does anybody know whether it is possible to see simultaneously on the LCD screen what you are writing on the e-ink screen? I have definitely seen videos where people do this with the YogaBook (maybe this works with the previous version only?) but I am not able to activate that feature on my new YogaBook 10" C930.An example of what I mean is here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FgLl24vI49Y

The support services are absolutely useless and I have my doubts that any of them has ever used the device. They keep referring to the Guide, which is super basic and has no solutions to offer except accepting that it doesn't work or sending the computer back. I would be happy if anybody knows the trick - Thanks

Thanks - that is very sad.
I would suggest this definitely as a feature to RE-CREATE!

I totally agree with you! I own the first version of the Yoga Book and really appreciate the option of writing on a flat surface while looking straight ahead at the screen. This is relaxing for neck and arm - I don't know of any other device that offers this option, not even pen and paper.

I can't understand why this option is missing from the successor. For me this is the reason why I won't get the successor - besides the fact that there is no Android version anymore. Software-wise it should be possible to transfer the inputs on the E-Ink display to the main display - just like with a big TouchPad.  Mirroring the main screen to the E-Ink display would be the icing on the cake.

You can try using obs open broadcast software. In that there is an option to capture a window, check if the e ink is detected as an window in obs.

If yes then you can see the prview of the window in the obs software. Just fullscreen it and you can see the Live preview

did you people not get the latest eink sdk software update? They added a feature that uses the e-ink like a wacom tablet. You can't see what you're writing on the e-ink, but you'll see it on the LCD. I'm pretty sure that it's what your video is showing.  There's also a mirror function that puts the LCD image down onto the e-ink, although I don't much care for it because the refresh rate is very slow.  However, it might be good for whiteboard video use.

I don't have the device yet, still clinging to the first generation. But that's excellent news! So, now the second generation is a decent replacement should the first one break down.

Too bad, they are not producing the C930 Yoga Book any longer. Hopefully, I'll be able to use it a few more years before it disintegrates ...

That's a shame - I do hope the same for my first gen device. Let's hope there will eventually be a third generation!

The new gimick in place of e-ink seems to be the folding LCD that spans from top to bottom, but the e-ink still seems preferable to me because of the need for actually writing on something that doesn't glow into the eyes.
