Re: Yogabook 2 C930 - 2019 - Kindle App Missing

EPUB files in their native format ARE readable on Yoga Book C930.

The update allowing this became available many months ago - March 2019 I beleive.

They work just fine, and it functions like any normal E-Reader.

Please install e-ink updates from Lenovo Support using this link:

https://pcsupport.lenovo.com/us/en/products/tablets/yoga-series/yoga-book-c930/downloads/driver-list/component?name=Software%20and%20Utilities

Refer youtube videos ( https://youtu.be/iPYNc4e1R3U ) to remove DRMs (Disclaimer: please check copyright laws in your own country before using this) from  your  Kindle books to convert them into e-book using  Calbre software.

Note: DRM removal method only works with Kindle e-book reader app 1.17 and lower versions.

I hope this helps.

Thanks.

Re: Yoga Book C930: Kindle App Missing

2019-10-19, 18:44 PM

I totally feel the pain, not being able to natively port a large library of books from my Kindle account. After all, it seems a computer like the YogaBook aimed at those of us who wanted a true all-in-one mobile device that could handle such tasks. I blame Lenovo less and less and really see this as an issue of the convoluted DRM protections on ebook content. It seems as if the digital corporate trend is geared toward pushing consumers toward the powerhouse eReader brands and leave third party development stranded at the docks. Luckily, there are great programs for conversion, like Calibre (as another poster mentioned.) (and, I keep a proper log of my invoices for eBook purchases should it come to the petty battle of DRM vs Fair Consumer Use)

Ultimately, what I've come to do, loving my YogaBook more than Amazon.com, is seek out more flexible eBook libraries. eBooks.com has a fairly large database and doesn't tack on the additional krf encryption that makes conversion more cumbersome as AMZ, B&B, and other popular competitors continue to develop solutions to prevent users from utilizing 3rd Party eReaders.

What I'd really like to see, is DRM support built in to this eReadable eInk display of the YogaBook. Its really a shame that, even after legitimately purchasing content -- the user has to subvert all of this protection to access the content on their own devices. The net is full of digital content stimulatory and unsavory that is available for consumption and distribution without any content micromanagement. Here we have the intellectual activity of reading books, locked down tight to a few pop brand distributers... tsk tsk. I wonder why the eInk unit isn't either capable or licensed appropriately to just read the files with DRM intact.

So, until the culture around eBook distribution changes, I truly believe it is our duty as paying consumers to subvert the Big Corp. mentality. To give in, only chokes the industry more. I'm pleased with the YB C930's eReader, that it is even offered is a computing blessing. Project Gutenburg has pretty much all of classic literature covered for free, sans DRM. As much as I appreciate the convenience of AMZ, the greediness -- not so much. I could never fault Lenovo for not diving into the assuredly demonic legal rabbit hole of attempting to make the eInk display AMZ sanctioned. Its just become that much more important for me, as a person who likes to consume literature to keep and manage my own digital library... to be diverse and flexible in choosing w3 sources for the content I want and pay good money for. The YB C930 supports THAT mission just fine, IMO.

What I would like to see... some feature expansion on the eReader, but I'll leave that for another post and see if we in the community can't drum up enough momentum to support development of the eReader by putting the SDK to good use.

C'mon YogaHats!!

But, a surprise to the lack of Kindle-ing... hardly.

Well, the irony is that I am not really worry about my kindle protected books.  I can live without them and I have no intention to circumvent any DRM protection. I just want to be able to read my old opensource books that I have in .epub format. Why do I see the .epub files when I navigate to the folders in my e-ink browser ?  this is so frustrating.

Are you up to date on your eInk version?
I am running 1.2.0.10 and can navigate through my .epub library and the eReader opens them, even the ones with illustrations.

I had to do a manual update and install of drivers from:

https://pcsupport.lenovo.com/us/en/products/tablets/yoga-series/yoga-book-c930/downloads/automatic-driver-update?linkTrack=Caps%3ABody_SearchProduct&searchType=3&keyWordSearch=Yoga%20Book%20C930%20%28YB-J912F,%20Lenovo%20YB-J912L%29

The site recommends that you do not use MS Edge as the browser for this, and you will need to dl Lenovo Service Bridge.

I know that some programs tend to struggle with deeply nested folder hierarchies or when a filename has unsupported special characters or whitespace... Have you tried copying one of your epub files to Desktop and rename it something simple -- to rule out these factors?

Whenever I want the kindle app on windows I go to amazon, purchase it for $0.00 and then receive a link to download it. I have been using it in conjunction with the new clone mode which lets me read my kindle or google play books directly on the e-screen. This is a BIG upgrade to the YB. Several postings will provide info and links. Hope this helps.
