Yoga Book C930: compatibility issues with Windows 10 Pro

2018-10-24, 12:35 PM

I need Windows 10 pro for work, so I upgraded my YB C930 to pro. Support told me that it was not really supported, I would have to live with basic/non-optimised drivers.  In general it works fine, I just have the following issues:

1- eink keyboard sounds do not work, vibration does work fine though. Some keypresses seem to lag sometimes...but I think I had the same behaviour with the original windows home (maybe I type too fast).

2- Screen flashes black for a second from time to time, and eink screen flashes white too. Seems to happen more often when I change orientation (i.e. to work portrait)

3- eink notes do not change orientation when turning the unit. And sometimes they open in the wrong orientation.

4- fingerprint reader works once every 2 or 3 times...

5- I only get 4 to 5  hours battery life.

But I do not consider those problems to be too serious, I am very happy with it, its the work laptop I always wanted.

I'd be grateful if anyone else is using windows 10 pro can provide guidance on how to fix any of the above issues. Thank you.

Thank you very much.

Many of the drivers/software appeared to be installed, however by re-installing them from the website some problems have dissapeared.

1- re-installing the eink SDK brought back the keypress sounds

2- re-installing the chipset driver and the graphics driver seems to have fixed the screen flashes

I'll keep re-installing drivers...thank you

I presume you have installed drivers from the Lenovo support site - some won't be found automatically by Windows. Personally I can't see that there would be much difference, if any, in drivers for the different versions of Windows.

If you haven't:

In particular I would look for things like Power Management, Chipset and Software and Utilities - I'd expect them to get things to pretty much the same as it was for Windows Home.

There may be an issue about the order in which some drivers should be installed - there was on the old Yoga Book. For example I'd suggest making sure things like the Chipset stuff is done first, and some of the Utilities - before things like the Pen and Keyboard etc.

It may also be worth checking that drivers you thought you installed are actually the ones being used - again, on the old Yoga Book there was a situation like this and the old driver (for keyboard, as I recall) needed to be uninstalled and deleted to force the new one into use. Of course it it might not be the same with the c930 but could be worth checking.

Glad that helped - it does make sense that some things need to be done before others are effective so it's worth keeping in mind.

Hello sir, may I ask how did you manage to overcome the bios registration of the win home license number? After many trials and calls with the local support I’m still not able to install a win 10 pro version.
Thanks for any suggestion

You have to have new Microsoft Key to upgrade to Pro..  You cant use your Home Key any longer.
