Yoga Book C930 overheating often, keyboard separating from base along edges

2020-09-29, 17:29 PM

Hello,

I have a Yoga Book C930 that I bought in August 2018, and have been using happily ever since. I began noticing about 6 months ago that it was sometimes running quite hot, and I've been more careful to not tax it too much and always keep it elevated with air underneath. About 3 weeks ago, I began noticing that the touch keyboard/screen is beginning to separate from the base of the computer along all of the right edge, and also the bottom right corner. I call it a keyboard but it's a touchscreen that functions as keyboard/drawing pad/parallel screen, etc.

How can I address this concern of overheating and fix the computer? It is out of warranty.

Does the Yoga Book C930 have a tiny fan inside? Because mine is definitely not circulating air out of the air holes it has on both sides.

Thank you for your help!

Often people confuse the Yoga C930 for the Yoga Book C930.   They are different machines, with different forums, and moreover the Book doesn't have a keyboard.

Hi and thanks for checking to confirm the computer.

This is indeed a Yoga Book C930, and not just a Yoga C930.

I call it a keyboard but it's actually a touch keyboard that can be used as a drawing pad, parallel screen, etc.

It almost certainly does not have a tiny fan.  Did you drop it ever?  A hard fall might break the adhesion between the case and the e-ink panel.  I would just consider using glue like E6000 (a sort of strong rubber cement) but if that doesn't work I'd try super glue or epoxy.  Maybe the lack of connection to the case is causing poor thermal conductivity?  Mine is quite new, and although I have noticed that it seems to get hot on the bottom, it hasn't technically overheated.  The entire bottom of the machine is likely designed as a sort of heat radiator.  I wouldn't feel safe using it for long outside on a hot summer day.
